Dear Mrs. Galbraith, Sandy and Randy,
I just recently learned of Coaches passing. Although I am late in hearing the news, I wanted to let each of you know what fond memories I have of being in your home as a little girl. My thoughts are with you.

A very wise man once said, "Three things are real: God, human folly, and laughter. Since the first two are not comprehensible, it behooves us to do all that we can about the latter."
Francis Galbraith once defined his life by saying, "I've had my share of laughs." It was my good fortune to share many of those laughs with him.

What fond memories and fun times we all had together. I loved going to visit in Missouri and our trip to Red River. Mr. Galbraith was such a wonderful man always loving and a fun conversationalist. I always enjoyed seeing Mr. and Mrs. Galbraith show up in Fort Worth in their motorhome and hear about their trip. I know that your heart is aching, but the wonderful memories you will all enjoy will last you forever. I feel blessed that I got to experience some time with him and his family. We Love You! I am saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Galbraith. I loved the man. I'll never forget the times spent with Mike Kumpy wrestling in the yard with him. Growing up, I idolized the "big three"--Coaches Galbraith, Ferguson, and Pfaff. Whenever my father and I talked of NKC those three names always entered into the conversation. Friendship, honesty, discipline and respect--What a great man and what a great family.

My condolensces to the Galbraith family. I quarterbacked under Coach G in the early 1960s. He gave me books to read on football theory and calling plays even though he concentrated on line players/defense. One of my proudest moments came after we scored a touchdown on plays that I'd called and he showed me the exact order he'd written down before the series occurred. That's what effective teaching/mentoring is all about. Chuck Bishop, Ph.D.

Dear Mrs. Galbraith and family,
I was very sad to hear of " Coach's " passing. I have only wonderful memories of a very fine man that was a positive influence on me during my High School years and throughout my life. I was one of the fortunate ones that had Coach Galbraith as coach for all four years beginning when he was coach of the freshman team at NKCHS. The success our teams achieved through his guidence has been a source of great pride to me for more than 50 years now. My sympathy and condolences to the Galbraith family; Your sense of loss is shared by many many people.

Dear Mary Ann,

Please know that you & your family are in our thoughts & prayers at this time. You & Francis were a special couple at St. John's Fitness Center & so faithful in working out. After reading some of the messages, Francis certainly achieved a position of respect & high esteem in the community. Mary Ann, I'm so glad you are near your daughter now. May God's love & strength be of comfort.

To the Galbraith Family:

I know I speak for many many students when I say I was saddened to learn of Coach's death. I can also say that a flood of happy memories came rushing back to me as I thought back to those years at NKCH.

While I never rec'd the "Paddle" I did have my moments with Coach in my face. It was always deserved!!!

With my deepest sympathy,

I loved his genuineness and his caring manner, which he must have passed along to you. I know my sister, Joanne (class of '83) feels the same way. Sincerely, Shirley McKnight Spencer (class of '73)

Mrs. Galbraith, Randy & Sandy
I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you all. The first thing that came to mind when my father told me of Mr. Galbraith's passing was first his smile, second his laugh and then fond memories of roaring river. I feel fortunate to have been around him when Randy and I were growing up. He was a fine man who will be missed by all those that came to know him.

Dear Mary Ann, Randy and Sandy, I always admired Francis. His wisdom and presence always impressed and somewhat humbled me, giving me a certain stature to strive for in my life. And I'll never forget the times around the campfire in Cassville. His sense of humor and honest interest in your opinion made him a pleasure to be around, and unforgettable. Our prayers are with you all.

Sandy & Jimmy, It's hard to express the heartfelt sympathy that we have for your family at this time of loss-Dad's are so precious and such a strong and wonderful influence on our lives-it's nice to know that Mr. Galbraith touched many people's lives in so many good ways - its no surprise that he would have such a wonderful and caring daughter and son-in-law and we feel lucky to have shared in your friendship over the years. Sandy, give your mom a hug for us - Love ya,

Mary Ann, Randy and Sandy. We are so saddened about the loss of a great influence on so many lives. We remember the trips to Roaring River after those Friday night games; the coaches meetings after those Friday night games; the times setting on the back porch making major decisions such as when do we go to the land at Cassville, etc. As a first year coach I learned more from Francis in one season that I had learned in all my college classes, life experiences, etc. The way in which he taught athletes the game, the game of life totally consumed his teaching/coaching. After leaving coaching he displayed the same attitude toward the students he dealt with as a vice principal. I will always remember his stern, but guiding ways that molded not only his young students but his young coaches. May God be with you all.

Randy
and Sandy, I am sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I was one of the
many that passed through the halls of NKC and was influenced in a
positive way by your dad. I was also lucky to know him on a personel
level, having gone to school with you both and being to your house on
occasion. I think my fondest memories of your dad were the many summer
nights that Randy and I would challege your dad to a game of tennis
doubles when he was done working at Macken Park for the evening. We all
loved the competion, and Randy and I were always excited at the thought
of possibly winning. As you have read, your dad was respected by many
and touched more lives than you may have realised. My thoughts are
with you all.

Mary Ann, Randy and Sandy,
I join the many who are deeply saddened by the passing of Coach Galbraith. All the best to your entire family. I consider myself very fortunate to have met and been influenced by Francis during my years at NKCHS in the early 1960s. Whether it was in football, in class, or in his office, he lived and taught the importance of character, integrity, discipline, perseverance and humility. There have been countless situations when his guidance was with me. Over the years, I only needed to ask; "What would Coach Galbraith do"? to keep me on the straight and narrow. Those of us who passed through the NKC football program were truly blessed to have him as our coach and mentor. He has been in my thoughts over all these years and I am very grateful for his presence in my life.

Dear Marry Ann: I wanted to express my deepest sympathy to your family.
"coach" was one of the greatest influences in my life. I am retired from teaching, but now beginning my 40th year of coaching football (now at Benedictine college in Atchison,Ks)I was proud to have coached Randy and to watch Sandy grow up as well. I know everyone in the class of 1963 admired and respected him so very much!

Dear Mrs. Galbraith, Randy and Sandy: My mom, Sondra (Wurzer) Keefe-NKC Class of '55- forwarded me an email on Thursday which was making the rounds of her class, containing the Ft. Worth news of "Coach" Galbraith's passing. It's funny--he was "Coach" Galbraith to so many Hornets, but to my class and others, he was "MR. GALBRAITH". Fortunately, I never had to appear in his office for dress code violations and other such issues as I have been reading about in other postings! And I am quite fortunate I did not partipate in my class's junior skip day at some lake I can't remember everyone went to for the day in 1975. All I remember is the ones who went were enjoying a very lovely time and all of a sudden they see MR. GALBRAITH'S in either his truck or Coach Diehl's truck bounding down the road towards the dock they were on...at least one of my classmates dove into the lake thinking he could get away...it didn't work...busted! Many good memories at NCKHS, Old Pike, Briarcliff, etc. We were such a fortunate bunch of people to know Mr. Galbraith and his family! We've had our good times and bad times and hopefully we will all be together again...a wonderful reunion someday! Much love and prayers to all of you.

Coach Galbraith was a big part of our High School years. He was a great influence on everyone's life he touched. We are saddened by his passing, but know he lived a long and very productive life, teaching many young people the right road to follow. He was a man who gained the respect of all who knew him. We all benefitted from his leadership and advice given during our high school years, advice which has lasted throughout our years.

It was with much sadness that I read of Frances' passing. It was my
privledge to have taught with him at North Kansas City High School for
many years. He epitomized those great qualities of humanity and his
love of family and devotion to friends, the high regard for his
students whether on the athletic field or in the classroom, his
professionalism as both a teacher and administrator placing him as one
of the best of role models - not just for students, but for teachers as well. His sense of humor - I can still hear after all the years his
voice and laughter - and moments to treasure with our last visit
together in Nixa, with Frances, Mary Ann and schnauzer, Gus. Liz and I
send our deepest sympathy to Mary Ann, Sandy, and Randy.

My deepest sympathies are with you at this time of loss. I knew Francis best as Vice-Principal during the time I was at North Kansas City High School as one of the teachers. I greatly appreciated his firm hand in disciplinary matters which did not mean that he did not keep his sense of humor. He was one of my favorite colleagues at NKCHS. May God be with you all.

I was a student at RHS. Coach Galbraith was a man I truly respected and have many memories of him. I once remarked during practice drill called "blood & guts" that I hoped a certain very large individual would not be tackling me. Coach over heard me. Guess what. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I was fortunate to have played for Coach Galbraith, at what I believe was his first head coaching position at Redemptorist High School, l949 through l951. There are about 12 of us, who benefited from his leadership, and discipline, that still play golf together. He has been the subject of discussion many times. In short he was, and still is a great example for us all.

What a great man he was. I played football for him in 1961 and 1962 and was his student assistant in gym class. I went on to play at Baker University and he had prepared me well for college ball and life. He truly influenced my entire life.

Coach and family: He respected the life that was given him to live. He loved his family, he loved coaching and the kids that were entrusted to him. He knew how to enstill in others those qualities of respect for life that so many saw in him. Coach Galbraith was to me an example of the man I wanted to grow up to be. I had him as both a coach and a gym teacher. He believed in physical education to all children no matter what their individual capabilities. No matter what the particular challenge he presented for us on the field or in the class I always looked forward to his coaching and tutilage. My sympathies go out to his family and I am certain he will be greatly missed. On to the awards podium coach. I'm sure you will get many.

May 4, 2007

I attended NKCHS from 1956 through 1960. We had excellent coaches at all levels (Galbraith, Ferguson, O'Dell, Pfaff, etc, etc.) but Coach Galbraith seemed to us kids to be the leader of the group in terms of his demeanor, and presence among the student body. (Coach Ferguson was a very close second and I really appreciated Coach Pfaff's efforts to make me a better track person) Those years were exceptional in terms of building winning teams and and in indivdual learnings for those of us that particpated in sports at NKCHS. To be at the age I am today and know that my "leaders" of that era are passing on is sad to say the least. I will always remember Coach Galbraith for his attitude and what he passed on to the students at North Kansas City. It was the beginning of what we all needed to understand in our future lives.
My sympathies to his family. He will be missed.

Dear Mrs. Galbraith, Randy and Sandy: I was very sad to read today of Coach Galbraith's passing. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't know your husband and dad. His larger than life presence is a happy memory from childhood. Looking at the remains of the dog pen, I often think of Coach and Winky the dog. I have missed seeing all of you since you left the neighborhood. I have many happy memories of are years living next door to each other. The many games we played in the street, the trips to the pool, the crazy blue go-cart, and the dinner bell ringing you home at night. I hope this finds everyone else well.

It is heartfelt sympathy that we extend to the Galbraith family at this time. Coach, we may have moved on but we’ll always remember. We’ll remember that you taught us, by your example, while we were young, what character meant. We knew without your saying outright, just how love of family, a strong personal faith and trust in one another can change lives. We knew you were passionate about your family, your God, we as individuals and we as a team. You didn’t have to tell us that…we knew because it showed every day in your actions. A person is fortunate if there will be just a few people who have a profound impact upon their life. For me, you were a special one at that time of my life because I had just lost my father. Great teachers, like you, impart so much more than what is evident in the classroom or on the field of competition…you teach life because it remains with us for life. Yes, we may have moved on but we’ll always remember you.

Coach Galbraith was one of the persons who has most influenced my life. I was lucky to have him as a coach during my junior and senior years in high school in North Kansas City and the lessons I learned from him in athletics have held steady in life through the years. He was truly one in a million and the world is a much better place because of him. I remember Mrs. Galbraith as a quiet and beautiful lady who obviously loved her husband very much. To Mary Ann and to the rest of the family, I want to thank you for sharing Francis with those of us he coached--he made a lasting impression on all of us and we are all the better for knowing him and having him lead us.

Dear MaryAnn,
The news of the passing of Coach Galbraith is very sad. He was a very special person in my life and my football coach for three of four years in highschool at NKCHS. He was tough, fair, disciplined and full of energy. I have so many memories of him. A great thrill was to have him attend our 40th reunion in 1998 and have the chance to personally thank him for his great influence in my life. It's good to know of his interest in Young Life and realize his faith was a foundation for his life.

Cecelia (Keech) Blackwell

To say that Mr. Galbraith was a mentor to young people is a gross understatement. He was a mentor to all who needed it and a friend to everyone. His passing leaves a huge void in the lives of everyone whom he touched. I will never forget his kindness, his gentleness, his humor, his strength--both physical and character, his love for kids and family, and that 1000 watt smile and twinkling eyes. Thank you, Mr. Galbraith, for sculpting the lives of so many North Kansas City High School Hornets--we are forever in your debt.

I am saddened to hear about Coach Galbraith's passing. Playing football for him was one of my most rewarding High School experiences. He taught us discipline, self respect and because he was a winner the pride that comes in being a part of that. Years later, after High School, while living in North Kansas City I would take my kids to Macken Park and we would run into Coach Galbraith. I never had the opportunity to meet Francis and for this I am sorry. Wow, what an honor it must be to have had such a wonderful man as a friend, husband, father and father-in-law. You all must be beaming with pride as you read these words from friends and family. Your dad sounds like a very remarkable individual and I know you will miss him. I know your hearts are heavy and that this is a very hard time for you but just remember, you will see him again. I know if he could talk to you he would tell you not to grieve for him because he is with His Lord and it must be wonderful. God only gave Francis to us for a while and I am sure he welcomes his son home and is celebrating his return. So, please rest easy and lean on your friends and family for your needs. I recieved an
e-mail today informing me of coach Galbraith's passing. I'm finding it very difficult to find the words that express all of the emotions that are rushing through me, but it is very much the same way I felt when the Trade Centers came down. There has never been anyone in my entire life that has had such a profound impact on my life. They say that football builds character, but it was just the vehicle that coach Galbraith used to start us on our journey in life. The work ethic, dicipline, and numerous other character traits he instilled in us were invaluable, and made me who I am today.I truly feel blessed to have had the privledge and the honor of playing for and knowing him. I know how terribly hard this must be for all of you and please accept my deepest condolences.

Dear MaryAnne: I was sitting in my office this morning thinking about all the dear folks Brenda and I were so privileged to know at The Cambridge. What a surprise when I read the paper tonight to read of Francis' passing. Even after sickness and disease had taken its toll on his physical body, we both felt very close to you both during the short time before you moved. Under any circumstance the loss of a loved one is hard. But in reading the other tributes about Francis it made us feel so privileged to have known such a warm and generous person. MaryAnn you are so blessed to have your children to support you during this time. God will sustain you. Just remember, there is a scripture in the Bible that in part says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". You have so much to look forward to. Thank you for allowing us to play a small part in you and Francis very full life.

I had the great privilege of being on Coach Galbraith's North Kansas City High School football team in the mid 60's. His character, compassion and leadership abilities are remembered to this day.

It was my pleasure to know Francis and MaryAnn for many years as they worked out at St John's Fitness Center in Springfield. We missed them when they moved. We're never ready for someone to leave this life and move on to the next. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Francis was my hero, my mentor, my friend. I was his assistant in football and he was mine in track. He never lowered his expectations for any young man whether he was an athlete ornot. I could write a book about this great man who loved life, his family, and all the boys who played for him at North Kansas City High School. He had many great teams but that doesn't tell the story about a man who was a father figure to the Hornets for many years. We socialized for 50 years with nothing but fond memories of him and his family. May God be with you Mary Ann, Randy and Sandy.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Francis. He is so fondly remembered as both Coach and father. We mourned dearly when Kevin passed away. Now father and son are together again.

Please accept my sincerest sympathy and condolences on the passing of Coach Galbraith. May God bless you and comfort you during this time of sorrow and loss. I had the great honor of knowing Coach Galbraith and the rare privledge of playing football for him in 1964 and 1965. He was a special man and he taught us about discipline, honesty, courage, winning and being a man. My life has been better because of my time with him. I know many share this feeling. God bless you coach and thank you for all you gave to so many of us Old Hornets. I wish you and yours eternal peace and happiness.

I am one of his football players from Northtown. I've lived in Fort Worth since 1970 after graduating from Wm Jewell and in visiting KC have often sought out Coach Galbraith, but never could find him. I was shocked to see that he had lived for a time so close to me. He was a wonderful teacher and taught me so many life lessons by both his words and example. You lived close to us in Briarcliff and I remember the times I could come by and he'd be working in the yard and we could just visit. He was just a wonderful man and I'm saddened by your loss. Please accept my best regards.
