I spent two years as a student of Howard Newman when I did an Ohio State post-doc in 1975-1977. While Howard was a very private person, his quirky humor was often released, showing me a bright man with a lively imagination. Howard seemed to hold to no orthodoxy except to scientific truth, which he pursued vigorously. He always had a moment to speak with me and answer my questions.
In later years Howard remained a friend and a colleague, always with a ready smile when we would meet at meetings.
One does not forget people who are your kind, able teachers.
May his name be remembered in Israel.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Newman's family. He was a kind man, and fine teacher. I very much enjoyed traveling with him to Ohio Valley Section meetings. His love of science and life was a great influence to me.

Dr. Newman was my preceptor as a doctoral student at OSU. I will always be indebted to him for his guidance, mentoring and patience, and I will always remember him for his influence on the start of my professional career. My sincerest sympathy goes out to the Newman family.

As a former doctoral student and faculty colleague at the Ohio State University (OSU), I remember Howard (Dr. Newman) very well. He certainly contributed to the growth of the OSU pathology program and advanced the research of a number of pathology residents and graduate students.
I send my condolences to Pauline and her family.

As a faculty colleague and Director of the Brain Behavior Laboratory in the Nisonger Center at OSU,I did brain mapping studies with Howard through his leadership with autistic youth. I always respected his commitment and untiring efforts in behalf of autistic youth. His effort will be sorely missed and his contribution to autism is a deep and lasting legacy.

We will miss Howard at Cheri Papier's group that discusses natural medicine. He was a very bright man, and was willing to share his knowledge with us. We will all miss him.
He liked talking about his family.

"I remember well my professional association and many conversations with Howard. In East Africa I met again one of our graduate students now a practing hematopathologist in Zimbawe who spoke of Drs. Newman and Lott and shared memories of his days with us at Ohio State in the 1970s. Howard had a rich and full life and touched many other lives. My thoughts are with Pauline and the family."

My sincere sympathy to the Newman family on the loss of your husband/father. Howard was a respected university colleague who enjoyed collaboration with associates across the OSU community. We worked together on several R&D projects and I was always impressed with his passion for research and education as evidenced by his untiring efforts to create innovative educational experiences for autistic youth and teachers in training. May God bless you all.
