Mary Buttress Obituary

Buttress, Mary Antoinette
1924 - 2021
Mary Antoinette (Pannella) Buttress, 96, passed away on February 19, 2021. She was born on September 9, 1924 in Grandview Heights, Ohio to Cuono and Mary Pannella. In addition to her parents Mary is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Joseph, her sister and brother-in-law Anne and Peter Salemi, her sister Rita Melaragno, her brothers-in-law George, Naz (Theresa), Mitch (Margaret), Aneese Buttress and sisters-in-law Betty Buttress and Rose (Ben) Boerger. Mary's greatest pride and joy was the family that she and Joe built together. Survivors include her loving children, Phil and Patti Buttress, Sue and Gary Bauchmoyer, Marybeth and Phil Callaghan and Anne and Bill Heinmiller. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Dan (Heather) Buttress and Patrick Buttress, Kaitlin (Alex) Ditty, Bryan (Grace) Bauchmoyer and Rylie Bauchmoyer, Leah, Cole and Will Callaghan, Tim (Jenn) Heinmiller, Molly (Christian Dardon) Heinmiller and Andrew Heinmiller. Mary basked in the joy of being a great grandmother to Ellis Buttress and was looking forward to the birth of her second great grandson in May. In addition, Mary is survived by her brothers, Clem (Ginny) Pannella and Bob (Jeanne) Pannella; brother-in-law, Ernie Melaragno; and sister-in-law, Smaya Buttress; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Before starting her family, Mary worked for the Farm Bureau as an executive secretary and enjoyed traveling the country with her girlfriends. She and Joe were pillars of St. Christopher Parish for decades. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and she lived it through her many volunteer efforts. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Thurber, The Forum and Vitas Hospice and all others who cared for her so lovingly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's memory to St. Christopher's St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1420 Grandview Ave., Columbus, OH 43212 or Vitas Hospice, 655 Metro Place South, Suite 770, Dublin, OH 43017. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at St. Christopher Parish, 1420 Grandview Avenue, Columbus, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne. Mr and Mrs Buttress would bring communion to my parents years ago. My Mom always gave them pittzelles after they left. After my parents passed, I continued to give them pittzelles. Mrs. Buttress complimented me on the cookies, however I knew they were not as great as my Moms. Later on I discovered that they lived next door to some dear friends of mine. I would try to see if they were available to just say hi when I would pick up my friend. One time, Mrs Buttress asked me to come inside. Her eyes lit up as she showed me numerous papers, booklets of her recent class reunion She was so proud of being part of the reunion festivities and couldn’t wait until there was the next one. Her joy gave me joy What a wonderful couple!

Condolences to your family. We were neighbors of Joe and Mary on Oakland, always enjoyed seeing them on the street.
