Ralph Woolever Obituary

WOOLEVER Ralph H. Woolever, 90, of Ashville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 surrounded by loving family. Ralph was born on November 16, 1920 in Madison Township, Pickaway County, Ohio, son of the late Melvin G. and Lerlie (Goodman) Woolever. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Charlene Dresbach Woolever, his wife of 53 years, his twin brother and constant companion Royce, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Jeneve and Al Swain and Sharon Dresbach. He is survived by his five children, Rachel (Patrick) Meyer of Prospect, KY, Karen (Gary) Hovis, Byron Woolever, Crystal Woolever, all of Ashville, and JoAn (Monte) Matteson of Pataskala; 11 cherished grand-children, Sam (Rebecca) Meyer, Kate (Matt) Gottschalk, Tina (John) Meyer, Nick and Brynn Hovis, Rachel, Jolene, Hannah, and Holden Woolever, Logan and Phoebe Matteson; five adorable great-grandchildren, Allizai, Lizzy, Lela, Tempe, and William; sisters-in-law, Alice Woolever of Ashville, Mariruth (Howard) Seubert of Columbus; two brothers-in-law, Vaughan (Joyce) Dresbach of Circleville and Mark (Margie) Dresbach of Leipsic; 11 special nieces and nephews and their families. Ralph is also survived by numerous friends, neighbors and extended family who enriched his life. He spent his life farming in Walnut Township, was a Walnut Township Trustee for 25 years, a lifetime member of Hedges Chapel and a lifetime member of the Pickaway Co. Historical & Genealogical Society, where he served as President and Trustee, recently as Trustee Emeritus of the Historical Society. Ralph was also a lifetime member of 366th Fighter Group Association and a life member of the Historical Aircraft Squadron in Lancaster, both of which provided extraordinary bonds of friendship and companionship for him over the years. A WWII veteran of the Ninth Air Force, 366th Fighter Squadron, he served in the European Theater where he earned the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European Middle Eastern African Campaign Medal with bronze stars, American Service Medal, W.W. II Victory Medal, and the Belgian Fourragere. Ralph was an honorable and honest man in every aspect of his life, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a wonderful role model for his family and loyal friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the OLIVER-CHEEK FUNERAL HOME, 420 W. Main St., Ashville and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Hedges Chapel CCCU, 15495 Winchester Rd., Ashville with Pastor Ron Reese officiating. Interment will follow at Reber Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Historical Aircraft Squadron, P.O. Box 156, Carroll, Ohio 43112, Hedges Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union, 15495 Winchester Rd., Ashville, 43103, Pickaway Co. Historical Society or Genealogical Library, P.O. Box 85, Circleville 43103.
