Walter Page Jr.

1926 - 2015

Fort Dodge - Walter J. Page, Jr., 89, died October 21, 2015 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. He was born on September 14, 1926 in Dodge City, the son of Walter J. and Mabel (Myers) Page, Sr.

Walter was a lifetime resident of Dodge City, attending Dodge City schools. He enlisted in the Navy in August of 1943 at the age of 17. Walter served in the South Pacific on a PT boat in various squadrons where he saw extensive action. He attained the rank of Motor Machinist Mate 1st Class. After his discharge in 1947, he returned to Dodge City. On April 16, 1946, he married his childhood sweetheart Virginia Barton in Dodge City. Walter owned and operated his own plaster and drywall business in Dodge City for 22 years. He then opened Page Auto Sales for 10 years. After his retirement, Walter and Virginia traveled to Arizona during the winter months for nine years before moving to Fort Dodge in 2001. He enjoyed rebuilding cars.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dodge City and attended the Fort Dodge Chapel. Walter was also a member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W.

Walter is survived by his wife, Virginia of Fort Dodge; two children, Sherry Pena of Overland Park and Kenny Page of Gladstone, Missouri; three grandchildren, Natalia and Antonio Pena both of Overland Park and Jaimie Page of Kansas City, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Destiny, Van, Lily, Brady, Isabelle, Adriana, and Avelina; one sister, Mrs. Rosemarie McMullin of Grass Valley, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Pearle and Jerry Page.

Graveside service will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Fort Dodge on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Vernon Bogart presiding. Military rites will be provided by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. and the Navy Funeral Honor Detail. Inurnment will follow. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to John 14 Fellowship in care of the funeral home.
