Fred Calonico Obituary

FRED DAVID CALONICO A strong yet kind, compassionate, caring and loving man. Fred passed away on December 8, 2005 in San Mateo. Beloved husband of the late Eileen Calonico for 64 years. Loving father of David, Alice (Rossi) and Dennis Calonico and father-in-law of Kathy Calonico and Paul Rossi. Brother of Rose Spagnolo and the late Mike Calonico, Angie Gambardella, Frances Pisciotta and Josephine Paletta. Devoted grandfather of Scott Calonico (Austin, TX), Matt Calonico (Houston, TX) and Jill Carter (Dallas, TX) and Alison McDougall and Nick Rossi of San Carlos. Son of the late Isidoro and Maria Calonico. Also survived by three great grandchildren, Alexis Calonico, Hudson and Logan McDougall. A native of San Francisco, CA. Fred was born on Telegraph Hill, May 17, 1914. He attended Garfield Grammar School and Galileo High School and participated in numerous city basketball leagues competing with such notable athletes as Joe DiMaggio and Hank Lunsetti among others. A banker, a salesman and a pari-mutuel clerk, at Bay Area Horse Race Tracks, Fred also contributed to the war industry as a journeyman machinist beginning in 1941. Friends and family are invited to attend a vigil service on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at The Colonial Chapel of Crosby N. Gray & Co., 2 Park Rd. at El Camino Real and Peninsula Ave. in Burlingame. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine's Church, 1310 Bayswater, Burlingame. Arrangements by Crosby-N. Gray & Co. Burlingame, CA.
