John Gay Obituary

John K. Gay
Aug. 20, 1979 - Sept. 23, 2014
Concord
John Gay passed away on September 23, 2014. He lived in Contra Costa County most of his life. John's loving spirit and positive outlook on life touched all who knew him.
At an early age it became apparent that John would spend his life involved in theatre from Kids on Key to Stars 2000 to his career in theatre management at both the Campbell and Berkeley Repertory Theatres. John's contributions to local theatre include introducing musicals to the Northgate High School Drama Department and producing a two-night AIDS Benefit Fundraiser at age 19. He was nominated for a Shelley Award in 1999 for his portrayal of "Snoopy" and lived a dream come true in 2010, shining as the male lead in the west coast regional premiere of "Avenue Q."
John is survived by his partner, Steele Colby; his parents, Ken and Dianne Gay; and an extended family including uncles, aunts and cousins.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support by those who knew and loved John. We are honored by this beautiful life, taken much too soon.
A service celebrating John's life will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014, noon to 3pm at the Veterans Memorial Center, 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, CA 94549.
Donations in his memory can be made to Stars 2000 Teen Theatre Company, 51 Weller Court, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
