Peter Taranoff Obituary

Peter P. Taranoff Oct. 13, 1919 Apr. 8, 2008 Resident of Walnut Creek Peter P. Taranoff was born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Canada and immigrated to the U.S. as a small child. His early education was in Los Angeles and rural Oregon. He graduated from Linfield College in 1941 with a degree in Chemistry. He served with 41st Chemical Laboratory during WWII in Africa and Rome. In 1946 he returned to work at St. Helens Pulp & Paper Company in St. Helens, Oregon. He remained in the Paper Industry until 1971, including 6 months in Zaragoza, Spain with Boise Cascade and a move to the Bay Area for 3 years with Fiberboard Corporation. In 1973 he founded Tara Coatings, Inc. a waterproofing company. In 1948 he married Irene Nilsson. They lived in Columbia City, Oregon, Where their 3daughters were born. They built a home on the Columbia River, enjoyed boating, fishing and vacationing. Pete was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church and SIRS Branch 8. After retirement he studied guitar and became a woodcarver. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his daughters, Carol Stearns of Beaverton, Oregon, Janet Goetz of Pleasant Hill, and Patricia Stone of Hermosa Beach. He leaves 4 grandchildren, Katie Goetz of Palo Alto, Ca., Susie Goetz of Palo Alto, Brett Goetz of Beaverton, Or. and Briana Stone of Hermosa Beach and one great grandchild, Delilah Goetz of Beaverton, Or. Two brothers preceded him, Nick Taranoff and Larry Taranoff Memorial Services will be held at Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, 1543 Sunnyvale Ave., W.C. 94597 on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Walnut Creek UMC, or to Linfield College, 900 Baker St., McMinnville, OR. 97128 designating the Pete & Irene Taranoff Endowment Scholarship Fund.
