Lorraine Downs Obituary

HANOVER Lorraine R. Downs, 92, passed peacefully on her birthday, Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover. She was the loving wife of Colonel Hugh G. Downs, Jr., who died April 12, 2002. Born March 18, 1922, in Hagerstown, Md., she was a daughter of the late Norman Ellsworth and Grace (Summers) Rottler. Lorraine was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She spent many years hosting and entertaining friends and acquaintances while her husband, Colonel Hugh G. Downs, Jr. was in the service. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan and loved reading. Lorraine is survived by a son, Norman E. Downs of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Tina E. Deel and husband Dennis of New Oxford; three grandchildren, Jason Bosley and wife Amber of Hanover, Denise Deel of Abbottstown, and William Deel and wife Anna of Hanover; two great-grandchildren, Kamia Deel and Willow Deel; and her longtime dear friend, Judy A. Dodrer and husband Henry, Westminster, Md. A service to celebrate the life of Lorraine Downs will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Homewood Chapel, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA with Chaplain Austin L. Chinault officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at Homewood Chapel. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Contributions in memory of Lorraine Downs may be made to Homewood at Plum Creek "Benevolent Fund", 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331.
