Ruth Zimmerman Obituary
Ruth Pauline Zimmerman, 93, went home to heaven on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017. She was born July 9, 1924, on the home farm east of Woodburn, Ind., to the late Ezra and Barbara (Gernhardt) Steiner. She married Dr. Gordon Zimmerman on June 9, 1946, and he preceded her in death in 2003.
Ruth graduated from Manchester College as a music major, and she used that vocal talent to honor God throughout her life. Ruth supported Gordon as the first pastor (1949) of Wauseon Evangelical Mennonite Church, today known as Crossroads Evangelical Church. Together, they served churches of the Evangelical Mennonite Conference in Kansas, Indiana, and Ohio over many years. Together, they also led 13 group trips abroad, mostly to the Holy Land. Ruth was a resident of Fairlawn Haven in Archbold for the last five years.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Roger (Judith) of Wauseon and Charles (Jill) of Batesville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Erin (Joshua) Corwin of Indianapolis, Ind., Cortny (Dr. Michael) Helmick of Seattle, Wash., Joseph (Shannon) Zimmerman of Indianapolis, Ind., and Dr. James (Kate) Zimmerman of Wauseon; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Caleb, and Elise Corwin, Elliott and Emmett Helmick, Jesse Zimmerman, and two babies on the way; a sister, Mary Klopfenstein; a brother-in-law, Robert Otto; and three sisters-in-law.
She was also preceded in death by her younger sister, Lois Otto, as well as her four brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, in the chapel at Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon, with Pastor Matt Boyers officiating. Interment will follow in Wauseon Union Cemetery.
Visitation for Ruth will be 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel.
Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family suggests any memorial contributions be given to the Dominican Republic mission that was dear to Ruth and Gordon: Solid Rock International, P.O. Box 20867, Indianapolis, Ind. 46220 or to Crossroads Evangelical Church, 845 E. Leggett St., Wauseon, Ohio 43567.

Though I never met Ruth, I consider the Roger, Judy, Erin, Joe, and Jimmy great friends. The caring and love that they show towards other speaks volumes to the quality of the family that Ruth led. The Zimmermans are a great group and your legacy will be positively spread through the kind deeds that the family will continue to perform.

We grew to love Ruth through our son Joshua's dating Erin at Taylor University and then further after their marriage in 2001. She welcomed us into their home and she Gordon both made us feel most welcome as they each gave us a book from their libraries. How fortunate we feel that our son is now a part of this devout family. And to know that Ruth is with the man in Heaven she so loved from an early age. God is so good.
