Jerome Belcastro Obituary

formerly of Littleton, MA, taught in Westford,
owned paint co. & furniture restoring co.; 70

KURE BEACH, North Carolina -- Jerome T. Belcastro Sr., 70, of Kure Beach, North Carolina, formerly of Littleton, died at Concord Hospital, Concord, NH on April 25, 2011. He suffered a heart attack while speaking at the Monday Night Big Book Step Study Alcoholics Anonymous Anniversary Meeting. His son, Tom, and several close friends were with him when he passed.

Jerry was born in Lexington, MA on November 29, 1940, the son of the late Bernard and Veronica (Ryan) Belcastro. He grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School, Class of 1958. He later earned a degree in Education from Fitchburg State College.

After graduating high school, Jerry worked for Sherwin Williams Paint and then RJ Reynolds Tobacco as a salesman. In 1961, he began working with his brother, Bernie in a painting business. In 1968, Jerry struck out on his own and founded Belcastro Painting, which is now owned and operated by his son, Tom. He also taught painting at Nashoba Technical High School in Westford from 1976 -- 1986. In addition, Jerry owned The Strip Shop, a furniture stripping and refinishing business, in the 70's and 80's. In 1992, he revamped the business into Belcastro Furniture Restoration in Tyngsboro, which is now owned and operated by his longtime friend, Billy Murphy.

He moved to North Carolina in 2003 where he and his wife, Debbie, owned a furniture restoration company, worked part-time at H & R Block, and enjoyed semi-retirement traveling and living at their beach condo. He was also an avid Scrabble player and a lover of crosswords. His faith was extremely important to him. He always said, "The solution to all your problems can be solved by having a relationship with God, may you find him now."
Jerry shared with many the July 15, 1985 date he got sober. He carried the message of AA wholeheartedly and helped many people over the years through mentoring, counseling and speaking.

Jerry Belcastro is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Palchaudhuri, of Kure Beach, NC; a son, J. Thomas Belcastro Jr., and Tom's wife, Andrea (Lally), of Leominster; daughters, Lisa C. Belcastro of Edgartown, MA, and Ryanne M. Dennis of Dover, NH; as well as his sister, Virginia Daigle of New Hampshire. He also leaves behind stepson, Raj Palchaudhuri of NYC; and a step-daughter, Taj Palchaudhuri, of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Laura Belcastro, Kayla Goldman, and Victoria Belcastro, and numerous nieces and nephews, and the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He was predeceased by his four brothers, Joseph Belcastro, Bernard Belcastro, Francis Belcastro, James Belcastro, and his sister, Elizabeth (Belcastro) Smithers.

BELCASTRO -- His family will receive relatives and friends at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton on Saturday April 30 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. With a reception to follow at Devens Conference Center, 100 Sherman Ave. Ayer, MA from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to your local Alcoholics Anonymous or your favorite charity. Cant believe we are coming up on 13 years !! I think about Jerry often he basically saved my life! My 1st AA meeting was with Jerry and he stayed with me every step of the way for years. He was a friend, Sponsor, and a 2nd Dad.
Being ignorant about AA When Jerry took me to my 1st meeting I thought I was all set. He said to me "I will pick you up tomorrow for another meeting".
I was shocked cuz I thought I was done again he asks me "How often did you drink" my answer was everyday. "Then we will go to a meeting everyday.
I am sure you are running the meetings in heaven!

Wonderful man I met in February of 1989. I was introduced to him by a mutual friend. That friend was Robert "Bob" Hawkins of Chelmsford Mass who passed away today April 18th 2017. Both of these men were very instrumental in my life and a point of recovery where I could have gone either way. Kept me grounded and in the book I want to thank both of you from the bottom of my heart. And I think about things you guys said & did all the time as examples of how this works. God bless both of you.

To all Jerry's family and friends: We've lost contact over the years, but we have fond memories growing our families together, Tommy and Lisa watching TV while we tried to teach Jerry how to play btidge on Goldsmith Street. Then the ball and chain bowling league where Jerry taught me how to bowl. Our deepest sympathies to the family of one of the most wonderful people God has graced us with.....

To Debbie and the rest of his loving family and friends,

Jerry will be remembered as such a kind, happy, helpful, and inspiring soul. Funny as can be too and he brought so much laughter to many of us.

To think about how much he helped not only myself, but the many others is remarkable.

I am wishing for only the least pain as possible for his loved ones in thier time of grieving his loss and am hopeful for some happiness mixed in as Jerry would want for all of us.

I so look forward to seeing him again in the thereafter at the big meeting above.

Jerry- We love you and you will be sorely missed.

I had the pleasure of seeing Jerry after 20 years Monday night ,he had invited me and a friend (former student and close friend) to a speaking engagement and we attended. I had spoken to him several times recently and my friend and I were so excited to see him after 20 plus years. We were students in High School when we first met Jerry he was our new shop instructor. We were leery at first and I'm sure he was too the first day on the job. Surprise to all of us he soon became the most popular teacher in High School especially with the students. You see Jerry had many gifts and one of those presents from God was the ability to transform young kids into solid men or women at such a young age. Jerry taught us a lot in school and we had a lot of fun but where we really learned from Jerry was working for him summers throughout our High School career. Jerry stressed quality craftsmanship, reliability, and most of all honesty and integrity.
He instilled in all of us these traits that would propel myself and close friend Dan L. through the Marine Corps and into family life as young fathers. Jerry in a way was a surrogate father to so many of us.He gave comforting insights to problems within our lives and held them confidential. Later in life he wasn't only my teacher he was my friend and someone I could confide in. I loved Jerry and I'm sure most did that had the honor and pleasure to know him. My only regret is that I wish I was with Tommy when he walked him to the car. I hope that it wouldn't have mattered and it may have been the time for him to return to God and that his work was done. God please except Jerry into heaven for he has helped so many of us here to take time out and reflect on our lives and encouraged us all . Amen

From Henry D. Hough
Jerry was like a father to me. He and God helped change my life by taking me through the 12 steps as they are laid out in the Big of Alcoholics Anonymous. I am the person I am today because of his unselfish help and love for all Alcoholics. He will be missed. He was
the best Sponsor I have ever had. Someday I hope to meet him in the Big Book meeting in the sky. My condolences to the Family.

To Mr B as We knew him in High School. Jerry taught impressionable young men how to become good men. He stressed quality craftsmanship, pride in what you do and most of all reliability, honesty and integrity which resonates in all of us who had him as a teacher. He was a wonderful friend and true confidant for me later in life. He will be remembered with great appreciation always and I had the wonderful experience of telling him so Monday. It is my wish that the family finds solace in the knowledge that he spread and the gift he gave to all that had the pleasure of his company. Thank You Jerry , I love You, may God bless you and except you. Amen

April 28, 2011

It must have been a blessing in disguise that I would have the chance to see my old friend ,teacher and confidant Jerry B on Monday the 25th. He encouraged me and a friend to attend a meeting where he would be speaking and we did. I had the opportunity to thank Jerry for shaping and instilling a work ethic in me and numerous other friends and classmates that resonates to this day. Jerry had the gift of being a great teacher. He listened well, and spoke even better. He was funny and loved to laugh ,enthusiastic in things he approached especially his work.I met Jerry as a kid back in High School in 1976 as a sophomore. He became our new shop teacher. He soon became one the most popular teachers at the school especially with the students. Jerry was hip with the kids, he new how to relate to and motivate students with laughter and guidance. He employed several of us to work for his Painting Company during the High School years. It is here that we learned what Jerry preached.Quality Craftsmanship,Dependability and most of all Honesty and Integrity. These great traits were instilled in all of us at a very impressionable age and would help propel myself and close friend Dan L. through the Marine Corps and eventually the work force and remain with us today. So as I seen Jerry's face fill with joy and a great big smile Monday as I told him this ,he looked me in the eye smiling and said thank you Ed it means alot to me. I know I gave him a big hug , but I hope he here's me in my prayers when I say Thank you Jerry, I Love You! For all who had the privilege and honor to have this man in your life it was a present! I hope the family finds solace in time knowing how loved Jerry was and all the positive ways he affected others lives. He will be surely missed in our hearts and prayers forever.
