We love you all and will be keeping all of you in our prayers. Uncle Melvin was one of my favorite uncles. I am so thankful that both my children and I got to grow up listening to Uncle Melvin play his fiddle. His memory will live on through all of those who have inherited the Hammon musical gene. Wish we could be there with you all. Love, Rachel Hammon, Montana and John Isaac Hall.

I'm so sorry for you, lovely and sweet Marge and family. I had the pleasure of singing with your group in Flushing many years ago, and next to you one night in church, Marge. I especially loved the song you all recorded entitled "Green County, Arkansas". I didn't know Mel personally, but my sympathies go out to all the Hammond Family in this time of great loss. May God bless you, and the Holy Spirit bring you much comfort. With love, Ella

I truly enjoyed having Mel as a friend and leading he and Marge in the Sr Adult Choir at Eastgate. He truly was a great man. I even got to sing with he and Marge one time at church. It was fun. Becky and I send our prayers and thought to the family during this time.

Uncle Mel holds a special place in my heart and childhood memories along with Aunt Dean.
As a small child living on a share-cropper's farm in the Eightmile community south of the town of Paragould, Arkansas, I recall summer visits by Uncle Mel and family when they vacationed to their home community. Their visits were filled with LOVE, laughter, ball games, family meals and music. It was always a wonderful time that took us out of the cotton patch for a while.
He was one of my heros that I will miss until we meet again on that beautiful shore.
God Bless and keep my sweet Aunt Dean, Ted, Ron, Mike and David.

Mel was a dedicated and lethal fighter with the 25th BLT, 4th Marine Division. My Dad was in the 23rd, fighting within a half mile of each other on Iwo.
Mel was badly wounded during an assault on Turkey Knob in the Meatgrinder in late February - early March 1945. He woke up on a hospital ship days later.
I met Mr. Hammon in the late 60s through my friendship with his boys, especially Ron.
I had the pleasure of playing music with Mr. Hammon and saw and felt the adoration his kids and Marge had for him.
Peace and strength to the Hammon Family.

Marge and family, I am so sorry for the loss of Mel. I have always thought the world of Mel and Marge, and they made me feel right at home with the 2-F-23 family. I certainly treasure those good memories at the reunions, and am grateful for Mel's participation and encouragement in getting the book done. And we will carry on with the story of 2-F-23 and get it done.

Aunt Dean and family: sending you much love, hugs, and prayers for comfort. What a talented youngman he was! I love to think about who all greeted him with open arms and i'm sure a golden fiddle so he could join the band. He'll be missed for sure. Love Always- Amy, Richard, Ryan and Brandon Jackson
