Rita Vassello

WATERLOO – Rita Walters Vassello, 93, a longtime resident of Waterloo, died Thursday (December 15, 2016) at Seneca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 18) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday (Dec. 19) at the funeral home. The Rev. James Fennessy, pastor of St. Francis and St. Clare Parish,will officiate. Burial will be in St. Rose's Cemetery in Shortsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 25 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165.
Rita was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Canandaigua, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Lorenz Walters. She attended Red Jacket High School. Rita retired after many years of employment from Phillips GTE in Seneca Falls, and later was a lunch monitor at St.Mary's Catholic School in Waterloo. While working at the school, she was loved and respected by both staff and students. Students at the school referred to her as "Grandma". One of St. Mary's School Yearbooks was dedicated to Rita. Rita was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary F. (Kenneth M.) Goodman of Kodak, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kenneth W. Goodman of Geneva, Kipp M. (Kirstin) Goodman of Waterloo, Korey D. (Jennifer) Goodman of Dundee, Kristopher M.Goodman of Arden, NC, Nicholas Vassello of Newark and Anthony Vassello of Geneva; great- grandchildren, Nicholas and Emlyn Goodman of Waterloo, Mayce and Sabrina Goodman of Dundee, Anthony and Giovanna Lee Vassello of Geneva; sister, Marjorie Scherer of Geneva; many nieces and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by her husband, John N. Vassello; her infant son, John Wayne Vassello; three brothers and three sisters.
