MARY VIRGINIA JARRETT

MARY VIRGINIA JARRETT, 88, passed away quietly on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Harbour Assisted Living, Fort Wayne, with her devoted husband, Raymond by her side. She liked to be called "Virginia". Born July 7, 1922, in Hardins burg, Ky., she was a daughter of Minnie and Jim Johnson. She married Charles "Raymond" Jarrett on Aug. 29, 1941. Virginia and her high school sweetheart were both graduates of Hardinsburg High School and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary in August of 2011. During World War II, Raymond was in Europe serving in the Army while Virginia was in Evansville, working at Chrysler and Sunbeam for the war effort. They moved to Fort Wayne in 1955 with Harvester. Virginia worked part time for 15 years at the Colony Shop, New Haven and was also a homemaker. Raymond was the love of her life. Then their son, Steve was born and her love was shared. "She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a wonderful mother-in-law and for many years she had one or two grandchildren on the week-ends and had always been beloved by them." Survivors include her husband, Raymond; son, Steven (Nancy) Jarrett; grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Jarrett, Cindy (Jeff) Reese, Jennifer Nance, and Jeff (Jami) Jarrett; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Theodore Johnson. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Daniel; her parents; brothers, Marsh Owen, Charles and Marvin Johnson. Pallbearers are grandsons, Mark and Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Reese, great-grandsons, Brock Jarrett, Mason Reese and Brady Bechtol. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Austin Jarrett (serving with the Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, Kyle Nance, Jarrett Reese and Chad Bechtol. Service is 11 a.m. Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hours prior. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
