James Hyatt Obituary

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Crestwood Cemetery for James E. Hyatt, 87, Hokes Bluff, who died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008. Pastors David Holton and Bob Kurth will officiate. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Hyatt was a native of Chandler Mountain. He lived in the Gadsden area as an adult, and had lived in Hokes Bluff since 1981. As a young man he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was sent to Oregon to work with the Forestry commission. After that, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he returned home, married and began a family. He retired in 1984 from Siemans-Allis after many years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved gardening, fishing and caring for his animals. Since his retirement, he was happiest when he was sitting in his swing, looking out over the pond, surrounded by his grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Lula Hyatt; brother, Elgin Hyatt; and sisters, Velma Shelton and Inez Waid.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 61 years, Doris Hyatt; son, Jimmy (Liz) Hyatt, Attalla; daughters, Donna (Ken) Hare, Ashville, and Lisa (Allen) Gattis, Hokes Bluff; grandchildren, Dave (Brandy) Hyatt, Carrie (Shaine) Stewart, Anthony Hyatt, Patrick Hare, Nathan (Sandy) Browning, Ashley (Jason) Jones, Trent (Alyssa) Hare, Jim (Stephanie) Browning, Devan Hare, Tiffany (Richard) Garrard, Kara Hodge, Judson Hodge, Brogan Gattis and Will Gattis; sister, Willadean Rust; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Special thanks to Dr. Boogarts and the kind and thoughtful staff of Trinity Medical Center CCU. Extra special thanks to Nurse Terrie McKinney and cousin Linda White.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at Crestwood Funeral Home.

I just found out about Elbert dying. I am so sorry. One of my Nurses at Albertville Nursing Home told me Tuesday That there was a Hyatt that died. I found out today that it was James Elbert. If I had known in time, my niece(Becky Cashio, Marlin Hyatt's daughter) would have brought me to the funeral. I have many memories of us growing up together. Working in the fields, playing in the Horse Pens, before we sold it to Mr. Musgrove. I would spent the night with his sisters. I have been in the nursing home for two and a half years. I would love to hear from some of the family. If you would call me at 1-256-591-5097. Again I am so sorry. Love Opal Bailey

Dot, I'm so sorry for your great loss...You and Elbert have been married so many years...I know how you and Elbert loved watching your favorite television programs together and just being together alone or with your family. May God be with you, comforting you in the loss of your husband and friend, and may God hold you close and give you peace assuring you of His great love.
