OSSIE JOHNSON Obituary
SAN ANGELO - Our loving mom and Ma-Maw is now walking the beautiful paths of Heaven and enjoying the beauty, splendor and angelic music of her new heavenly home. Her faith is now sight, as she was welcomed by her Master on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2005. Ossie Mae was born May 11, 1915, in Hillsboro, Texas, to Os and Ida Bratcher. In 1931, she married Temple Johnson, who preceded her in death in 1976. They lived in Bynum, Monahans and Alpine before moving to San Angelo in 1950. She is survived by her son, Temple Johnson Jr. and his wife Patricia of Seattle, Wash.; four daughters, Shirley Hutchinson and her husband Warren Lee, and Dorothy Johnson and her husband David of San Antonio, Darlene Farmer and her husband Harold of San Angelo, and Jerri Pirc and her husband Doug of New Zealand. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dean, Russell and Tim Johnson, Phyllis Jones, Whitney Cromwell, Daryl Hutchinson, Cherylee Washam, Darla Sanderson, Sharla Arp, Tammy Milligan, Paul Olive, and David, Darrin and Tiffany Johnson; and 24 great-grandchildren. Ossie Mae was a Godly woman with a gentle spirit. Her endless devotion to God and to her family was spoken quietly through her actions her entire life. She enjoyed spending time with her family listening to the singing and wild tales of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed the beauty of this earth and of all of God's children. She put others first as evidenced through her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, the hospital visitation program, and many other church activities including teaching Bible class and Vacation Bible School. She was a very talented seamstress and excellent cook. She used one of her gifts to make quilts for each of her children and grandchildren - physical and lasting reminders of her tremendous love for her family. As a cook, she prepared many wonderful meals that added warmth to the kitchen and her home. Many memories and traditions were made on Walnut Street, especially during the holidays. However, these earthly memories can never compare to the spiritual and eternal memories that will forever impact her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the rest of their lives. It is through her that her family came to know Christ and she will be waiting to welcome them home again one day. Among her many Christian friends, Ossie Mae leaves behind her lifelong neighbors and friends, Taylor and Mary Sipe, and her card-playing buddies, Mary Joy Powell, Marjorie Emfinger, Lillian Fields, Grace Rogers and Mavis Washington. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Southgate Church of Christ. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, in the Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas. Pallbearers will include Daryl Hutchinson, Greg Milligan, Paul Olive, David Johnson, Darrin Johnson, Donny Arp, Michael Sanderson and Brent Washam. Donations may be made to Hospice of San Angelo or San Angelo Christian Academy, 528 Country Club Road.

Johnson family, My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you grieve the loss of your precious mother. It is difficult to bear, bittersweet with wonderful memories and such a peace to know she is now "at home" to begin a new life with all of our dear ones and precious angels. May God bless you and hold you close as you continue the journey called life without her present. She was a dear, sweet lady. Love, Sheran
