Paulins, Florence "Betty" 11/19/1924 - 9/19/2021 Charlotte Paulins, Florence "Betty" Marjorie Elizabeth Betty was called home to her Eternal Father on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at 96 years old, just 2 months shy of her 97 birthday. Betty was born November 19, 1924 in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada the daughter of James W. and Florence (Smith) Crook. While growing up in Hamilton, Canada, she helped her parents by working at one of their two family stores. At age 14, her family moved to Pontiac, Michigan, where she attended school, worked at a local department store, and found going to the Fox Theatre in Detroit a most memorable pastime. There, she saw all the big stars, with a young Frank Sinatra being one of her favorite performers. As time went by, Betty had a surprising change in her life. She met "Bill" on a blind date and the rest is history. They married on July 31, 1948 and moved to Lansing. Eventually, they owned & operated the Dixie B-B-Q, known for Coney Dogs and "home baked pies." Additionally, Betty was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers for 85 years. She never missed a game, no matter how they were playing! She was nice, outgoing, always enjoyed being with her family, and had a great sense of humor. She was a strong, determined woman, and never found an obstacle that she didn't give her best to overcome. While she was still able, she loved to read, sew, crochet, and travel. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and made the best roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and the most delicious gravy you've ever tasted (Grandma's Gravy)!! She was an Amazing lady and will be dearly missed. We love you. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Paulins, her parents, sister Myrtle, brothers Maurice and James. She is survived by daughters Patricia (Robert) Toland of Comstock Park, Cheryl (Paul) Oberlander of Lewiston and son William II (Barbara) of Charlotte; grandchildren Angela (Erik) Bachman, Michelle (Sam) Thelen, Andrew (Kelly) Toland, Stephanie (Nathan) Tamminga; great grandchildren Jessica (Lucas) Wey, Kanin Thelen, Zachary, Heidi and Emma Tamminga, Charlotte and Samantha Toland; special niece Sandra Hoskins, along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral home, 301 E Jefferson Street, Grand Ledge, MI, 48837 (517.627.2147) with the Reverend Charles Foerster of Immanuel Lutheran Church Grand Ledge officiating. Internment at Strange Cemetery, Oneida Road in Eaton County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home.
