Edith Roper Obituary

Edith Ann Roper

Greenville

Edith Ann Roper, 95, of Greenville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 28, 2011.

Born November 17, 1915 in Boston, MA, she was a daughter of the late Pietro and Maria Petrucci-Petrucci, who were originally from Italy. Edith was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church for many years. She served on the Women's Committee, often baking for different fundraisers. She was very proud of her strong faith and she was looking forward to the building of her new church. Edith prayed daily for the sick and those in need and volunteered for Birthright while in Greenville. In her younger years, she worked tirelessly to raise money for cancer research, buying incubators for the Children's Hospital in Maine, and she donated to many charities.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted sister and a steadfast friend. She loved cooking her wonderful meals and entertaining. Edith was an avid gardener in her day.

Ms. Roper is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Gisler and Christine Crawford; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Lynne Roper; nine grandchildren, Sara Roper Schlicting, Patti Ann Roper Parish, Emma Roper, Ryan Crawford, Blake Crawford, Leslie Crawford Moore, Lorie Crawford Carpenter, Nicole Gisler Brown, and Lauren Gisler Bourbon; and brother, Pasquale Petrucci, of Lexington, MA.

Ms. Roper was preceded in death by many beloved brothers and sisters and a son, Thomas Roper.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held Tuesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown beginning at 7:00 pm, with visitation following. A Celebration of her Life will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will take place in Graceland East Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 8396, Greenville, SC 29604.
