RIP. He was my swim coach when I started SW as a young 16 yr old. He drove me to practice from school to the pool and was quite the gentleman. RIP and may peace be with your family at this very lonely time. I pray that your memory stays fresh on their hearts for all time. Sincerely, Lorelei Branam Bennett

I was very blessed to know and have had Fred Ellis for a coach and mentor. He came to my rescue years after we got out of high school and still never gave up on me. As many of you know i was hitting rock bottom. Im so glad that as my life changed around by God's huge mercy that i was able to thank Coach and i guess he had seen me on tv on one of the documentaries that ive been on and to know his work with me had a huge impact on my life. Ive now coached hundreds of kids for 17 years and all those kids get a little piece of Coach Fred Ellis when im out on the floor. May God hold you close coach, victory is yours!

I don't think they make teachers like Coach Ellis any more. I remember him fondly as a big teddy bear of a man. He was well loved and respected by us all, and it was obvious that he loved being a teacher, coach, and mentor to us. Back in '70-'71, I used to help him keep the official scorebook at the SW track meets, and from that simple act, we formed the "Trackettes" so that other girls could also get involved with the track meets. My heartfelt wishes go out to his family. Please take comfort in knowing how many lives he touched in such a positive way, and that he will be fondly remembered by so many of his students.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family (which is kind of like my second family) at this difficult time.
Fred was such a wonderful man! I remember one time I needed a jump over on Bird Rd. and Scotty and Fred came out to my rescue. They were happy to help me, joking around; and I was so grateful for their selfless good nature.
Fred had a charming personality and always made you feel welcome and warm when he greeted you. "Hey sweetheart, how you doing?"
I remember Lisa telling me how he gave prospective suiters the torture squeeze when he first shook their hand.
Fred will be remembered as the BEST there is in a husband, father, grandfather, coach , teacher, friend and neighbor.
Rest in Perfect Peace Fred. You did one heck of a job down here on Planet Earth!
Love always, Linda Lane
