Dean DeWitt Obituary

Dean Clayton DeWitt went home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, in Mesa, Ariz.
His quick wit and ready smile will be missed by all.
A service of tribute and love will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the same location
Dean was born to William B. DeWitt and Clara B. (Clayton) DeWitt in Wolf Point, Mont., on Aug. 13, 1926. He was an excellent student athlete, leading the Wolf Point Wolves to a 1944 state basketball championship. Dean was very competitive and continued to play organized basketball into his mid 40s.
After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a communications man during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following World War II, he completed mortuary schooling at the San Francisco Mortuary College. He practiced in that profession for a few years prior to moving to Klamath Falls to be closer to his parents.
Dean married Mercedes Collins and began a successful career at JC Penney. His marriage to Mercedes ended in divorce. He then became the "luckiest man on earth" and married Nancy (Ballard) Borgman in 1974.
About 1964, he left the retail field and began his insurance career. Starting with State Farm and Safeco, Dean began a partnership with Webb Wilson Agency.
The Oregon Tech Owls were a passion for him. Dean was the OIT football "stat man" for 25 years and a charter member of the Oregon Tech Booster Club. He was a pioneer in convincing the Klamath Basin business community that a strong OIT athletic program was good for the city. He was a fundraiser extraordinaire for OIT, providing not only such staples to the Klamath Basin as Portland Wrestling, but also to Klamath residents the 1967 World Champion Los Angeles Lakers for an exhibition game at OIT as well as a 1970s visit from the Original Harlem Globetrotters.
Dean retired as the primary owner of Webb Wilson in 1993. He and Nancy moved to Mesa and thoroughly enjoyed their hard-earned retirement.
Dean is survived by Nancy, his precious wife of 37 years; children Mike Borgman (Patty), Susan MacDonald, Dick Borgman (Pam), Kelley Borgman (Cheri), Cynthia Hunter (Dave), Bill DeWitt (Sheryl); 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Donald DeWitt as well as his parents and sisters Lois, Florence and Phyllis.
