Harold Wilson Obituary
June 24, 1924 - May 18, 2018
Harold Walter Wilson passed away peacefully at his Venice, Florida home on May 18th, 2018. Harold is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Casey Wilson.
Born on June 24th, 1924 in Hamden, Connecticut, Harold lived most of his life in the Nutmeg State, only retiring to Venice after many years of snowbirding.
The father of four daughters, Deborah Whitham (Mike), Martha Griffin (John), Nancy Davies Wilson (Larry) and Lauren Weisse (Steven), he was the "grumpa" to Van (Jody), Jared (April), Daniel (Laura), Aaron (Marlyn), Flynn (Laura), Gregory (Heather) and Liana. He was a great-grumpa to nine wonderful children. Harold was predeceased by his sisters Evelyn and Barbara, and leaves a niece and two nephews in New England. He is also survived by several Wilson cousins, including Paul and Diane.
A proud graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Engineering, he worked for Dresser Industries for many years. He could fix anything broken, and took joy in designing custom solutions that were efficient, practical and saved money. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and the American Society for Mechanical Engineers. He was a proud member for over fifty years of the America Lodge-St John's #8 A.F & A.M., Scottish Rite and Pyramid Lodge #9.
Harold enjoyed the bounty of Long Island Sound, often at the end of a clam fork! He was an avid fisherman of Lake Sebago, Maine. A notorious spoiler of beagles, he was predeceased by his beloved Susie. A long-time fan of all UConn athletics, he took particular joy in the record-setting women's basketball team. In his long and happy retirement, Joyce and he travelled all over the world.
At Harold's request, no services will be held. He will be interred in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield, Connecticut. The family wishes to thank Tidewell Hospice for their sensitive and caring attention to Harold and Joyce. For those who may wish to donate in Harold's name, donations can be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children or to Tidewell Hospice.
