Alistair MacFarlane Obituary

ALISTAIR CAMPBELL MacFARLANE, 83, passed away October 19, 2004 in The Woodlands, Texas. Mr. MacFarlane was born April 19, 1921 in Leeds, England to the late Archibald and Catherine Campbell MacFarlane. He earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Leeds University, Leeds, England in 1942. He worked for British Celanese Ltd. until he emigrated to the United States in 1950. He joined Monsanto Corporation in 1951 where he retired in St. Louis in 1985 as Senior Fellow. Mr. MacFarlane was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (London). He is the author of many technical papers and holds several U.S. and foreign patents. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Men's Senior Golf Club at The Woodlands Country Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sheila Goodall MacFarlane; and his two daughters Anne Keighley and husband Kester of Devon, England; Jane Brennan-Martin and husband Alex of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren Michael Bennett of Northamptonshire, England; Katherine Bennett of Devon, England; Adelaide Brennan-Martin and Alexandra Brennan-Martin of Houston, Texas; Marie Maxwell and Duncan Maxwell of Inverness, Scotland; Neil and Anne MacArthur of Callender, Scotland and numerous other loving relatives and friends. A private family funeral will be held at 10 am, Saturday, October 23rd at Forest Park Chapel officiated by the Reverend Randall Trego. The family wishes to express thanks to the nurses and doctors at St. Luke's Hospital in The Woodlands and especially to our lifelong family friend David Kienker for all his kindness and support. In lieu of flowers donations may be made on his behalf to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
