Jack Holt Obituary

JACK B. HOLT, 69, of Spring, was born January 25, 1944, to B.B. and Joan Barrington Holt in Lebanon, PA, and went home to be with the Lord on November 14, 2013.
Jack was an honor graduate and Senior Class President of La Marque High School. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1966 from Texas A&M. While at A&M, he was a Cadet Major, Commanding Officer, Co. A-2, served with the Ross Volunteers Honor Guard, and was a Distinguished Military Graduate. He went on to serve as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during which he served two years in active duty as Post Engineer in Germany.
He met the love of his life, Lenora Mooney, in West Texas, and the two were married on January 22, 1972, in Midland. They were blessed with two great children - Matthew, born in 1974, and Elizabeth, born in 1977.
Jack joined the Humble Pipeline Company, now Exxon, in 1969, and remained with them for 35 years. He spent 25 years in pipelines during which he held various management positions including Manager of Pipeline Field Operations, engineering, and regulatory compliance. He held assignments in Houston, Odessa, Corpus Christi, and Louisiana. After leaving the Pipeline Company he took staff assignments in Exxon Production, Production Research, and Production Development Company including Valdez litigation in Alaska, process systems safety research, and international project development. The final six years of his career were spent on the Sakhalin Project in Far East Russia. He was always very proud that he worked for a company that held high standards and the very highest caliber of employee.
Jack was a pilot's license holder and aircraft owner who spent many happy hours flying his Bonanza, "Three-three-mike." He was especially proud of earning his instrument rating. He flew numerous missions for Air Life Line flying burn victims to Shriner's Hospital in Galveston. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends from Exxon and Texas A&M, attending football games at Kyle Field with his college classmates, and motorhome trips with Lenora and grandsons Jeremiah and Travis.
Jack was active in church ministries at Champion Forest Baptist Church where he served as an Adult Bible Study teacher for many years. He also served on multiple committees, including the Building Committee on which he served as chairman for a $40 million church expansion, and served as chairman of the church's Katrina Relief Committee to help rebuild First Baptist Church on Pass Christian, MS.
But most of all, Jack wanted to be remembered as a born-again believer who worked hard at personal relationships by trying to put the interests of others ahead of his own.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora Mooney Holt; son, Matthew Holt; daughter, Elizabeth (Carl) Holt Zeringue; grandsons, Jeremiah and Travis Harrison; sister, Suzanne (George) Steed; brother, Jim (Susan) Holt; and nephews and nieces, Adam (Heather) Steed, Emily Elkins, Charlie Holt, and Jimmy Holt.
Friends may visit with his family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 15, at Klein Funeral Home, Champions. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, at Champion Forest Baptist Church, 15555 Stuebner Airline Rd., Houston 77069. Interment with military honors will take place at 10:15 a.m. Monday, November 18, at Houston National Cemetery, Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Impact Building Fund at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

It's sad to lose Jack, but he faced death the same way he faced life. He was a talented, Christian man who will be missed by many. Condolences to his family.

"Jack the Gentle" is the inscription on a plaque the unit in Germany gave him . Jack became my friend when I joined (1969) humble pipeline. He was there for me during the transition to work from college, through personal trauma, stayed in touch during my tour Vietnam ( combat engr like jack) and was a safe place to talk when I returned. While we talked he did truly listen and would with a rye smile make a gentle , humorous and logical comment that lead me to a better conclusion or action. Still remember him taking me to an AGGIE football game - good time - even though we lost. Our career paths diverged but they crossed again some decades later. When they did I found that jack was the same guy but even funnier. We shared old times and actually worked together again. His love for family, TA&M, and the corp were now framed by his love for his God. A fine man.

I had the privilege to work with Jack in several assignments with Humble, later Exxon, Pipeline. He was a trusted friend and fine Christian gentleman who demonstrated his faith and sense of humor, even in very difficult situations. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Just want to say "thank you" to Jack's family. While on a short furlough at CFBC he lent us, the Vasquez from the Canary Islands, a vehicle. He showed his faith by his actions. Heaven has gained a loving servant! Blessings and prayers for the whole family. Joe & Chari Vasquez

Lenora and family,

Jack was truly one of the good guys and a blessing to all who had the privilege to know or even meet him. He was a rare man, who had a positive impact on everyone he met. I never think of Jack that I don't remember his skit on witnessing where he hilariously referred to "the book of Nebuchadnezzar". Such a positive and humorous way to make his point. I know he will be missed by so many, but he served faithfully for the reward he has so justly received.

Jack's life is exemplory of a life lived for Christ and for others. He will be sorely missed...but remembered for his passion for God and family. Be blessed and comforted Lenora and family.
With love, Nathan & Jackie Harrison
