Ronald Conn Obituary
RONALD L. (RON) CONN, SR., 82, died the 26th of June 2007 in Houston, Texas. He was born 17th of July 1924, in Houston. He Graduated Lamar HS, 1941, and Rice University, 1950, with BSME. He served 3 years in WWII in Europe with 355th Eng. Regiment, landing after D-day on Omaha Beach. He was a registered Texas Prof. Engr. And retired from GE Company after 29 years, having worked in Schenectady, NY; Dallas; and Houston; as a design and a sales engr. and manager. He worked on controls for early GE jet and missile engines, sold GE electrical and turbine equipment to heavy industries, and was later president of Electrimech Systems in environmental controls. Earlier, Ron worked for Powell Electrical and Reed Roller Bit Cos. In 1991, he served as president, Rice Engineering Alumni Ass'n. He served 3 years as president, Houston Fire Museum and 10 years as volunteer on Houston Fire Dept. Rehab truck, which he originated. Ron was active in Episcopal churches: St. Georges, Schenectady, NY; St. Marks and St. John the Divine in Houston. He was presently a member of Southwest Presbyterian Church (PCA), Houston. Ron was an avid tennis player and golfer and member Lamar 41ers group. He was an active volunteer with Little League, Boy Scouts, American Red Cross, Stephen Ministry and Sheltering Arms. Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Annora Bryan Conn, and is survived by sons Ronald L. Conn, Jr., Houston, and Mark W. Conn and wife Jody Lu Conn and granddaughter Abra Catherine Conn, Thousand Oaks, CA; sister Mrs. H.R. (Carol) Touchy, Houston; sisters-in-law Martha Bryan Wetzel and Nina Bryan Moore and husband Forrest; several cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends. Special thanks to excellent caregivers Margaret Watkins and Kenssy Figueroa and Houston Hospice. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five until seven p.m. Friday the 29th of June 2007 in the Drawing Room at The Settegast-Kopf Co., 3320 Kirby Drive. Funeral services will be held at one o'clock p.m. Saturday the 30th of June 2007 at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd. with the Rev. David L. Wakeland and the Rev. Dr. Doug Richnow officiating. Acting as pallbearers will be Grover Noonan, Mark Evans, Jim Burden, Gary Sandler, Richard Ganchan, Andrew Chu, Steve Harris, Howell Parks and honorary pallbearer Forrest Moore.
