I wish now I had kept up with Stephen over the years. I remember my parents driving me and my siblings up to their spread at Canyon Lake on weekends. To me, the top of the hill was a mountain. My sister remembers Steve being in charge of us, and following him down to Tom's creek.

It turns out that our parents had been friends since their days at San Marcos Teachers College, many decades ago.

I remember Steve playing the guitar and introducing me to the folk and protest music of the 60's and 70's, like "Blowin' In The Wind". I still love all those songs today. Steve came to my High School Graduation party and sang for us. What a trooper!

I remember meeting him again a couple of years later at the Mexican border. I was traveling with my sister and Grandmother to Mexico City, and Steve hailed us from atop his motorcycle. No doubt, off to have a good time.

For my dear hippie friend, may you travel the highways of the hereafter with a song in your heart and a guitar on your back.

I have attached a photo of Pat Kelley, Stephen's father (sitting), with my father, Trent Cheyney, at one of Dad's B-day parties. Both have now passed on.

For his family : you were blessed with a fine man in your life. May peace find you.
