William Jackson Hale

William Hale Obituary

WILLIAM JACKSON HALE was born on July 9, 1924 to Charles Vernon and Mary Luvenia Petty Hale in Fort Worth, Texas and departed this life on August 3, 2002 in Houston. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth in May of 1941 and joined the Army Air Corps during World War II; he was stationed in Panama and then in the Galapagos Islands. While on leave he met Doris Holland and they married on August 15, 1946. Over the years, four children were born to this union. Known to friends and loved ones as Jack, he worked in several capacities over the span of his life. During the early years of his marriage, he worked in insurance and as a manager for Cook's Paint Store in Port Arthur, Texas. In 1957, he left the retail business world to serve as a minister. He served Churches of Christ in Hankamer, Santa Anna, Liberty, Alvin, Vidor, and the former Kinwood congregation in Houston (now Deerbrook Church of Christ). He retired from the ministry in the summer of 1989. In the early 1980's, he established the Accutype Printing Company with his wife, Doris. His calling card was customer service with a personal touch. He was active in the printing business through the fall of 2001. Following his retirement as the minister of the Kinwood Church of Christ, he was an elder of the Church of Christ in Deerbrook until December of 2001. He is survived by Wanda Doris Holland Hale, his wife of almost 56 years, and three of his children: Janis Hale White and husband Rick White of Huntsville, Texas; Alan Paul Hale and wife Ruth Esther (Stella) Hale and Philip Laurence Hale, all of Houston; a sister, Emma Lee Hale Roe of American Canyon, California; two grandchildren: John Wheatley White of Arlington, Texas, and Katherine Marie White of Collage Station, Texas; mother-in-law, Maggie C. Holland of Fort Worth, Texas; and a host of dear family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Luvenia Hale and a daughter, Alana Gay Hale. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and business associate. He loved to make people laugh, and everyone loved Jack Hale. Visitation will be held Monday, August 5, 2002 beginning at 6:00 PM and funeral services will be held Tuesday August 6, 2002 and 11:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Brookside Memorial Park.

Jack Hale was an instant friend. Carol and I were so lucky to have been married by Jack- with his big heart and faithful convictions, he was truely the right man for the job. I wish there were more people like him. He made a big difference in my life and asked for nothing in return. Bye Ol' friend.

Jack has the greatest sense of humor of anyone I have ever known. He is most likely sharing a joke or two up there now. He has always been my role model from the pulpit.

I'll miss Jack coming by our company with his cheerful attitude and wonderful outlook on life. He always had a joke to tell that would cheer anyone up. He will be greatly missed by us all.
