Richter, William I.

William I. Richter, age 87, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.

Bill was born on May 25, 1930. He was the son of the late Oscar and Ruth Irvine Richter. Bill served his country with the United States Army overseas in Korea. He owned and operated Richter Vinegar which was a 4th generation business spanning 113 years. There were four vinegar plants, two in Michigan, one in Minnesota and one located in Manitowoc. Bill also owned and operated RV Tank and Van Lines and Nutrients Incorporated also located in Manitowoc. He was an avid antique car collector and enthusiast. On December 18, 1988 he married Barbara Buechner at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Manitowoc. Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church, longtime member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club, and was active with many state and national vinegar associations.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara; two sons: Douglas Richter, Cato and friend, Lori of Manitowoc; Brian Richter and his significant other Meleah, Sheboygan Falls; four step daughters: Donna (Jeff) Smith, Anchorage, AK; Denise (Jim) Spatt, Manitowoc; Debra Smith, Lena; Doreen (Tony) Gabriel, Manitowoc; one sister: Adelaide Richter, New York; one grandson: Caleb Richter; three step grandchildren, two step great grandsons, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, Betty, along with brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 502 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. A reception will be held at the Manitowoc Yacht Club.
