Evelyn Everts Obituary

Evelyn Clark Everts
1915 - 2014
Evelyn Clark Everts, 99, of Boise, Idaho, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 of natural causes. She was born January 1, 1915 in Newcastle, Washington to George and Nellie Clark. She was proud of her pioneer heritage on the Washington Coast. Her father died when she was in high school, but Evelyn, ahead of her time, worked her way through the University of Washington, earning a degree in Zoology and a Master's in Library Science. Her first job was as a librarian at Washington State University where she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Everts. They were married Christmas Eve, 1938. They had two daughters, Jan and Barbara. She and Bill lived in several places in Washington until they settled in Boise. Evelyn stayed home and raised the girls while developing many interests and skills. She had a green thumb--an apple orchard to help with finances, her beautiful flower gardens, and a houseful of plants. She learned to ski, which was a favorite family activity, even in her nineties. She loved to swim, also, into her nineties. She never met a person she couldn't teach to swim. She traveled extensively and swam on many continents, and in many different bodies of water, regardless of the temperature. She also made several ski trips with friends, family and the Bogus Basin Ski Club. She rejoined the workforce as a reference librarian at Boise State University, where she retired as Professor Emeritus. She and Bill were avid BSU fans, with season tickets to a variety of sporting events. She and Bill could both root for BSU and avoid arguments about the Huskies and the Cougars. She was a remarkable woman with varied interests, from sports to books to bridge. Her family remembers gathering at her house to leave for Bogus Basin and returning at night to a home cooked meal, and sourdough waffles to start off the next day. She wanted written on her tombstone, "what time and how many"; she never knew who would be at the table or when they would get home, but she was ready to feed them when they came.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Irene Clark and brothers, Tom and Walter Clark. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Ford and Barbara (Edward) Arndt; grandchildren: Mike Ford, Sarah (Tom) Satterlee, Beth (Enoc) Lopez, Brenda Ford, Tom Ford, Josie Ford, Ali (Bill) Shearer, Alissa Arndt, Alison (Jason) Arndt-Wild and Adam (Mary) Arndt, as well as many great and great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 24 and a memorial service will be held at the same location Monday, August 25 at 1 p.m.

Our family enjoyed the friendship of the Everts family the whole time I grew up in Boise. Bill was my first boss, Evelyn was a friend and colleague of my mom, Jackie Westervelt, Babs was my French teacher in junior high and I had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy many summer picnics, swims with Evelyn at the public pools where I worked, and ski trips with the Everts when I wasn't teaching skiing for Bill up at Bogus. Every holiday Evelyn would make her wonderful steamed carrot pudding and I even got to enjoy it when I visited Evelyn and Bill on college breaks. The last time I saw Evelyn, I remember her joking with me when I asked her if she remembered something. With that wonderful smile on her face her comment was "I have a better memory than YOU Janny!" I will miss her Christmas cards, catching me up on everything in the family, and her wonderful friendship but I know she will be having fun with Bill again. My condolences and love to Janet, Babs and their families.- Jan Westervelt Smith.

My family and I have fond memories of Evelyn--the many days of skiing at Bogus, the camping trips, the get-togethers at the Everts' house, the horses our families had, etc. My brother Bill remembers how good Evelyn was to him, and sends his condolences. The Everts, both Bill and Evelyn, were an important part in my life as a teenager, and I cherish the time I had with the entire family. Barbara was a close friend in junior high and high school, and we met up again when she moved to Twin Falls; Janet was a friend of my deceased brother Bob. And my younger brother Bill enjoyed all the Everts family. Evelyn was a great lady, who always made people feel special and welcome--and her husband Bill, who planned many escapades, always had a passel of kids around him--making work for her! I hope Evelyn and Bill are planning a great adventure together, even as we speak! I'm so glad they were a part of my life. My deepest sympathy to all the Everts relatives. Evelyn lived a full life, as did Bill, but they are very much missed by the literally hundreds of lives they touched! Karen Eason Fraley

What fun times were enjoyed by Evelyn, my Aunt Emily Lloyd, dear friend Lois Hansen, and so many more "bridge ladies." I was privileged to know Evelyn even in a small way through my Aunt. I have heard many stories about her fabulous cooking ! Rest well, dear lady, you and Bill lived very good lives.
