Ronald J Wachter
September 5, 1937 - July 5, 2022
Ronald J Wachter was born September 5th in 1937 in Lincoln as the only child to L.C. "Bill" and Doris Wachter and passed away suddenly at home on July 5th 2022. Ron grew up in Broken Bow, Nebraska and cherished his time there. In those days he grew his musical talents for keyboards and playing the trombone and formed the basis of lifelong friendships with many special people. In 1963 he met the love of his life Valery while doing his residency in Waterloo, Iowa, and they were married October 12, 1963.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Washington University in St Louis, he will be forever grateful for his Kappa Sigma connections that led him to a 40-year career as a vice president at Bryan Hospital, much of which he spent overseeing construction projects and growing the hospital into the state-of-the-art facility it is today.
Ron loved Husker sports and spending time with family. Ron and Valery have two sons, Allen and Eric. He was a dedicated father, always present for every sporting event his boys were in and made sure the family had season tickets to Husker football, basketball, and volleyball. Ron also loved a project - from woodworking to landscaping to interior design projects. And he was an active member of many organizations. He was a Kappa Sigma fraternity member, a 50-year Elks Club member, Shriner, and most recently served as the president of the Westminster Church Foundation.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Valery, and sons Allen and Eric.
Visitation Sunday 2-4pm at Roper & Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive and formal service of remembrance at Westminster Presbyterian Church Lincoln, 2110 Sheridan, at 11am Monday, July 11th. In lieu of flowers, Dad asked that memorials be directed to the Bryan Hospital Foundation (1600 S 48th St, Lincoln, NE 68506) or the Westminster Church Foundation (2110 Sheridan Blvd, Lincoln, NE, 68502). He always had a great smile, a good story, and a warm heart. He led with dignity, inspiration and intelligence. A true legend in his own time.

I was so very saddened to hear of Ron's passing. I worked at Bryan in the 1970s and found him to be a friendly and genuinely nice guy despite the fact that I was a mere peasant in the public relations department, and he was an executive who had met thousands of employees over the years. But more than that, in the past 30+ years whenever we met, he never failed to stop for a chat, always leaving with that sweet smile. Mind you, I only worked at Bryan for 4 years, but he never failed to say hi. The last time I saw him was at HyVee when we were both masked. He spotted me and said hello when I could hardly identify anyone in a mask. I will miss those chance encounters and will always be amazed by his memory and his kindness. He will be missed.

To my dear cousin Valery and her sons, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I'm sorry that because we met so late in life and live so far apart I haven't had a chance to meet you or get to know Ronald. His photo shows a kind and intelligent face, his obituary speaks of a good and loving man. Rest in Peace. My heart is with you, Valery, in this sad time.
