April Swick Obituary

Swick, April Marie Born to Eternal Life, August 18, 2018, at the age of 51. April is survived by her loving parents June (nee Lautenbach) and Robert Swick; brother, Rob Swick; sisters, Rachel Swick, Cindi Clark; nephews, Joseph and Luke Swick; Aunt and Uncle, Doris (nee Swick) and Ray Greenberg; cousins, Jon (Shannon) Greenberg, Chris (Marcie) Greenberg. Also survived by other relatives and countless dear friends. April was born in Frankfurt, Germany on May 8, 1967. She loved all things German. She was a life-long parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and attended elementary school there. She lived her faith generously serving others. April's life's passion was education. She attended St. Mary's Academy, the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and received numerous degrees. She is a published author, mentored teachers and principals and taught at the University Level. She only missed the highest achievement by leaving her dissertation unfinished. It was her 2018 goal. She worked in the Milwaukee Public Schools for 28 years where she tirelessly served the families and children as a teacher, principal and finally a District Administrator. She loved her students and co-workers with all her heart. April was always MPS Proud. April's friends were family to her. With them she traveled the world, made crafts and was a gifted painter, enjoyed concerts and musicals, danced to 80's music and took rides in her pink VW Bug. April was happiest in a pool or on the lake. She was a Muppet Fanatic. We know April found the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me. Visitation Thursday, August 23, 2018 9:00-11:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 3635 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., St. Francis. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the MPS Foundation in April's memory to benefit a scholarship to be established in her name. April's family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of St. Luke's MRICU. You are amazing people that make a difference in the world.

I'm not sure if the family ever looks at this, but if you do, you should know that myself and other principals still talk about April with such fondness. She was truly unique!

Impossible to believe 5 years have gone by since you passed. You are thought of often.

Very few days go by when I don't think of April. There are so many times that I need to 'dish' about something and she isn't there to 'dish' with. I could call April any time I needed to vent and she was there. God, she was so funny! She could make any situation seem brighter. April, you're missed and you always will be!

I still think of April so often, just her generosity of spirit. I hadn't realized it was already 3 years since she passed. I hope it brings her family comfort to know that her memory lives in so many peoples' hearts.

I know it's been almost a year since we lost our friend, April, but I think of her almost every day. She was funny and bright and so full of life. it's hard to believe she's gone. My experience in MPS would not have been the same without her. I so valued our friendship and wish she was still here. God bless her and her family. Know that she was so important to so many of us.

First met Ms. Swick for a tour of Clement Avenue when my child was to start 4K. She was a wonderful person and my husband and I could tell how great she was with the children and that they all adored her. She was the deciding factor to sending our child to Clement. After she left the school, the light and welcoming feeling, that one felt when entering the building, left with her. The school has never been the same sense. Her personality and leadership were definitely one of a kind.

April was the best mentor and colleague anyone could ever ask for. I was a better leader, because I watched, listened and learned from her. She wrote my recommendation letter for Harvard (and I was accepted!). She was a model of how you could be a smart and fun leader at the same time. I hope the path to Heaven was paved with the same Hollywood stars she laid out for us at the end-of-year principal's meeting. I will miss her joy and her contributions on behalf of young people tremendously. Sending love to her family.

Sincere condolences to her family & friends. My son attended Clement while April was the principal there. She brought so much light and passion to the school. Her love for the school, her staff, and students was evident in everything she did. So sorry to hear of her passing.

She touched my heart in more ways than one!

You couldn't help but laugh when you were in April's presence. She had a big smile and an even bigger heart. She treated friends like family and approached everything in life with passion and gusto. She'll be especially missed at Halloween and Christmas, which she loved so much. Sincerest condolences to her family and friends.

I met April back in the early 80's when we worked at Potter's grocery store on Layton Ave. Once we each graduated from College we didn't see much of each other until God crossed our paths again at Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in St. Francis. Got to know April's family and looked forward to our hug each time I saw her at church. What an inspirational person she was. It's true what everyone says about her - she lit up a room! April was an amazing woman who touched many, many lives, including mine. I haven't stopped thinking about her since I heard the news. She will be missed, but NEVER forgotten.

As a new Principal, my school was just down the street
and when I needed any assistance I could call April
and she would drop whatever she was doing to run
over and show me the correct way to resolve the
problem. For longer discussions, she always invited
me over and would spend whatever time I needed.
She always offered a smile, advice and laughter.
She was a GEM. She dearly loved her family, spoke of
you all frequently. She loved her staff and most of all her
students. Such dedication. Such a sense of humour, great laugh,
just a rainbow herself. What a loss, as she looks
down now, she will guide all those she loved!
She has reached her rainbow, know she loved you all!

I knew her briefly years ago when she first became principal of Clement ave school. I was impressed with her energy, and she followed a principal i was very fond of. Her door was always open, as was her heart. I had moved on to another school, but socialized with her and others from the school briefly. That school and staff were a tough act to follow, because they felt like family! God has a plan.

April brought light and laughter since she was a kid. So shocked and saddened when we heard the news of her death. I hope you can fill the hole in your heart with the joy and love that she brought to your lives. I'm going to try to live lighter, love deeper and life others up intentionally as a tribute to her influence and impact. She is gone too soon.

April was my first friend and partner-in-crime at Clement Avenue School. We could talk about anything and she always made me laugh, when she could tell I was in a foul mood or just needed some love. April's love for her students was well-known by all. Later, when she would become principal, she treated all of us like the family we ended up becoming. My thoughts and Prayers go out to June, Robert, Rob, Rachel, Cindi, Joe and Luke. Thank you for raising a truly amazing daughter, sister and aunt. Words do not describe how much I will miss her.

While I was looking for an obituary for our neighbor, which has not been added yet, I saw your sister's name. I know we have not seen each other since high school, but I wanted to let you know that I will be thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.
