Theda Beningfield

Theda (Henderson) Beningfield, age 86, Leawood, KS (formerly of Raytown, MO), passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Menorah Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Country Club Christian Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Theda's memory to City Union Mission, 1108 E. 10th St., Kansas City, MO, 64146, or to Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO, 64113. Theda was born December 4, 1916, in Woodburn, IL. She was a pilot, a flight instructor, and for many years operated her own flight school (JACK-CASS Flyers). Theda was past president and member of the Missouri Pilots' Association and was honored by the FAA for being a Volunteer Safety Counselor. Mrs. Beningfield was a member of the 99's (Women's Pilots Association) and is honored in their International Forest of Friendship in Atchison, KS. She was a member of Country Club Christian Church, and a teacher in the 50/50 Sunday school class. Theda was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Elmer W. Beningfield, in November of 2001. She is survived by her son, Harley "Bill" Beningfield and daughter-in-law, Inge, of Lawrence, KS; daughter, Ardythe Kolb and son-inlaw, Jerry, of Shawnee, KS; seven grandchildren, Debbie Hamil, Britta Beningfield, Kevin Kolb, Marshall Kolb, Alec Beningfield, Erik Kolb, and Kristin Asquith; and seven great-grandchildren.
