Willard Smith Obituary

Willard Darrel Smith, 45, Rayville, MO (formerly of Marceline), died Sunday, December 1, 2002, near Rayville. Willard was born in Marceline, MO, on December 24, 1956, to Marion H. and Dorothy (Still) Smith. He married Charlene Brower on June 18, 1977, in Vibbard, MO. Willard retired from the United States Army, which he joined in 1981. He served with the U.S. Army Military Police as a Supervisor in Coltano, Italy, 1983-1986; Desk Sergeant/Operations Ft. Leavenworth, KS, 1987-1989; Senior Officer Federal Bureau of Prisons Ft. Leavenworth, KS, 1989-1990; Military Police Supervisor Baumholder, Germany, 19911993; Desk Sergeant/Operations Baumholder, Germany, 1993-1997; Physical Security Operations/instructor Ft. Lewis, WA, 1997-1999. He also served in the Gulf War. At the time of his death, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City as security and computer tech. He was a member of the VFW in Excelsior Springs. He is survived by his wife, Charlene, Excelsior Springs; four daughters, Cynthia Smith, Sedalia, Jennifer Smith, Kearney, Stephanie Smith, Rayville, and Tiffany Smith, Excelsior Springs; brother, William Smith, and half brother, Ronald Dean Pope, both of Marceline. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Anthony Shlimanoff, and Camdyn Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2002, at Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline, with Mr. James Farris officiating; burial with Military Rites will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mitch Payne, Terry Brower, Sam Pope, Bob Havard, Owen Burris and Junior Hatfield. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Willard Smith Memorial in care of the funeral home, to be used for his grandchildren.

I worked with Willard at the FRB of KC. Willard was very nice and funny to talk with. I seen him almost every day, he always had a grin going on. My condolences to his family and may GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I worked with Willard at the Federal Reserve Bank. I was relieved when he was on the other end of the helpdesk phone. He never made you feel stupid and was always able to help with my problems. He always provided service plus. I will miss him greatly. I pray the passing of time will ease the pain of your loss.
