Gerald Bogan Obituary

AMARILLO, Texas - Gerald Herman Bogan, 59, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Tues-day, September 9, 2008. Gerald was born September 26, 1948, in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Virginia Dare and Charles L. Bogan, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Cupp. Survivors include his wife, Lynn of the home; son, Daniel Malin of Portsmouth, R.I.; stepdaughters, Brenda Hayes and husband Robert, Chandra Culaia` and husband Andy, all of Amarillo, Texas; brothers, Charles L. Bogan, Jr. and wife Novella, of Kinston, Bob Bogan and wife Pat, of Henrico, N.C., Harry Bogan and wife Marion, of Nor-folk, Va., Joseph Bogan of Chesapeake, Va., Ricky Cupp and Kenneth Cupp and wife Angie, all of Norfolk, Va., Harry Lee of Springfield, Colo.; and sister, Pat Lassiter and husband Danny, of Chesapeake, Va. At the age of five, Gerald received the "most beautiful child" award in Portsmouth. He proudly served his Country with the U.S. Marine Corps with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Purple Heart, and the Navy Achievement Medal with Com-bat "V". After his stint with the Military, he was a commercial fisherman off the Virginia coast. He also loved to travel, and did so all over the United States. A Memorial service was held Friday, September 12, 2008, at Boxwell Funeral Home with his pastor, the Reverend Bradley Speer of Southwest Baptist Church officiating. A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Va. Funeral announcement by Howard-Carter Funeral Home.
