Amy Stiles Obituary

Amy Sue Lovell Stiles

Raleigh, NC

Amy Sue Lovell Stiles of Raleigh, NC passed away on April 30, 2017 at the age of 61. She was born in Knoxville, TN on November 13, 1955. Amy graduated from Carter High School in 1973 and from the University of Tennessee School of Radiologic Technology in 1975, then worked in that field for 5 years. In 1984, she completed her BA in Accounting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and moved to Cleveland, OH, where she worked in financial reporting for Ameritrust Bank and later obtained her CPA in 1985. In 1988, she began working at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Ohio, then moved to NC in 1990 and started working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina in Durham. While at BCBSNC, she obtained her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 1999 and held positions of increasing responsibility culminating as the Director of Financial Administration. Amy enjoyed meeting people and maintained a special relationship with her co-workers at BCBSNC. She was also very close to several long-time friends and valued her wonderful neighbors in Oakton Subdivision. Amy was fond of animals and until prohibited by illness volunteered at the Wake County SPCA. In addition to multiple dogs and cats, her childhood pets included chickens and rats. One of her cats lived to be 23 years old, and another reached an age of 22 years. Her two cats, Tillie and Charlie, will certainly miss her at treat time. Amy enjoyed traveling. She considered herself lucky to have cruised the islands of the Caribbean and the fjords of Norway; climbed the pyramids of Chichen Itza in Mexico; ridden the train through the Tuscany valley in Italy; seen the peaks of Mount Fuji in Japan and Denali in Alaska; stood in the open air arena where Paul preached in Ephesus; walked the lofty streets of Santorini; and explored the ruins of Bath and Stonehenge in England. Amy was a roller coaster enthusiast, and she most enjoyed the Spiderman ride at Universal Studios in Orlando. She also had a well-known fondness for Krystal hamburgers and always had to have one whenever she returned to Tennessee. Amy is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Willie Lovell. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Harold, and their son, Kevin, and by brothers- and sisters-in-law: Terry and Cheryl Stiles, Stewart and Sharon Fine, Joe and Darlene Stiles, Gary and Tammy Stiles, and Tony Stiles. She is also survived by 8 nephews (and families): Adam Large (Jamie and Gabriel), Isaac Fine (Amber and Gracelyn), Jacob Fine, Gary Stiles Jr., John Stiles (Lena), Paul Stiles, Tristen Stiles, and Andrew Stiles; and by 8 nieces (and families): Renee Large (William and Carlee), Jessica Stiles, Heather Crouch (Clint, Dean and Leeann), Sarah Naill (Wes and Lila), Meghan Stiles, Marlie Stiles, Brianna Stiles, and Madyson Stiles. She is also survived by several cousins that she held dear. A reception will be held on Wednesday (5/3/17) from 6pm to 8pm at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. Another reception will be held on Saturday (5/6/2017) from 10am to noon at Bridges Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Murdock will conduct a memorial service at noon followed by the interment at Eastview Memorial Gardens in Strawberry Plains, TN. Adam Large, Gary Stiles Jr., Isaac Fine, Jacob Fine, John Stiles, and Wes Naill will serve as pallbearers. In appreciation of those who gave them a chance for a college education, Amy and Harold had set up a scholarship to pass that chance to someone else. In lieu of flowers, tax-deductable gifts can be made to the Amy and Harold Stiles Scholarship at the University of Tennessee by mail or by phone at the following: The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc., Office of Advancement Services, 1525 University Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921. God's Angel. I was Amy's Administrative Assistant at BCBSNC, May 2004 - January 2006. Amy encouraged and helped me obtain my Certified Professional Secretary Certification. If it were not for Amy teaching me Accounting, I could not have passed the 7.25 hrs CPS exam. We used to close the door to her office and "cut up." Harold and Kevin, and to all the family and close friends my sincere condolence. I pray for your peace and comfort. Amy is with God. What a beautiful place to be, with our Father.

Harold, I am at a loss for words. I am so sorry for you and your family. I know how bad it hurts and there are no words to describe the pain that you must be feeling. I know that she is in a better place and does not have to suffer anymore. I have known you both practically all of my life and I have very fond memories of you and Amy from my childhood. She was a wonderful woman. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Amy was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. She and I loved to compare our travel experiences and dream about our next adventure. She had the most beautiful smile and wonderful laugh. She was a very dear friend and co-worker and I will miss her. I will cherish the memories and think of her every time I plan my next trip. I am happy that she is no longer suffering. Rest in peace my dear friend. I love you! Joan

I wish I would have gotten to know Amy better, I think we could have been fast friends. She had such a beautiful smile, you could tell that behind it was a kind and loving person. We get so busy in life that we miss out on getting to know the people that would bring us joy. Harold and Kevin, I am so, so sorry that you lost Amy. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have worked with Amy for the past 26 years at BCBSNC. We both were raising sons who happened to also be only children so we had many stories to share. Amy was truly the kindest person and always had a smile for everyone. She always had an open door policy and would stop to talk with you no matter how busy she was. Amy was a mentor to all and I am so thankful to have known her. Our prayers are with Harold, Kevin and her family.

Harold and Kevin, I am so sorry for your loss of Amy. I will always cherish the memories of how all three of you welcomed me and Mama when we visited in 2009 with Aunt Wanda and Claude. You are in my prayers.

Cats, paddle cactus, solar globe lights, minature daffodils, the best mailbox bed, a good book on tape, the best bookclub (Oakton), a smirky laugh/chuckle and a good glass of wine - all happy thoughts that bring Amy to mind! Heartfelt condolence to you both Harold & Kevin.

I am so very sorry. I wish I could offer something other than that. I never got to meet Amy. But I do know that she must have been a wonderful soul and in fact still is as those we love are never truly gone. I know that she is wonderful because I do know her son. Kevin is a wonderful human being. He is funny and kind and smart. And I know that is in part because of his mama and daddy and how they raised such a great person. That is a beautiful legacy to leave the world; one more great person to add light to the world. I hope and pray for peace and comfort for all who love her. You are all in my heart.
