Knoxville, TN

Gisela Glaser Hopper, age 88, of Knoxville, died at home November 24, 2016. She was a retired Knoxville City Schools teacher with 25 years of service. Mrs. Hopper was the first German war bride to graduate from the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Hopper was a member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by husband, Melvin Hopper; and daughter, Linda Dexter. Survived by sons, Ronald (Carolyn) Hopper of Blaine, and Steve Hopper of Knoxville; son-in-law, Denny Dexter of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Dr. Doug Dexter (wife) Dr. Courtney Dexter of Lewisburg, PA, Rhonda (Jeff) Jenkins of Blaine, Amanda Hopper of Blaine, Carrie and Alex Hopper of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Jaeden and Hunten Jenkins, Lily, Caitlyn and Callie Newman.

Memorials may be made to Black Oak Heights Baptist Church, 405 Black Oak Dr. Knoxville, TN 37912. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Stevens Mortuary Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway is serving the family of Mrs. Hopper. Mrs. Hopper's guest book is available at www.stevensmortuaryinc.com.
