Eddie Ponder Obituary

August 16, 1941 - December 2, 2018 Robert Edwin (Eddie) Ponder, drummer and studio musician, died December 2, 2018, following a fight with lung cancer. After serving in the Army, he began his music career. He played drums for the Bobbie Gentry band, the Smother Brothers Band, The Flying Burrito Brothers, the Dillards, and Spanky and Our Gang, and later recorded with musicians such as Warren Zevon, The Coasters, Bobby Vee and more. After Eddie stopped touring, he worked in Special Education for LAUSD, while still continuing to play with local musicians until his death. Eddie is survived by his wife Melinda Barash Ponder and son Morgan Ponder. His life will be celebrated December 15th at his home in Van Nuys, California. Details are available on Eddie Ponder's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Cancer Society.
