John Iacono Obituary

San Bernardino - John "Jersey" Joseph Iacono passed away Friday, July 1 at Kindred Hospital, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., due to complications from a brief illness. He was 88. John is survived by his wife Loretta, his daughters Christine Iacono, Theresa Chittenden, Rita Costello and her husband Michael, son Salvatore Iacono and his wife Kasi. John also leaves behind seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. John was born on November 20, 1927, in Brooklyn New York to Salvatore and Vincenza Iacono. On September 17, 1955, John married the love of his life Loretta Gutierrez, and the two remained devoted to each other until his passing. John left Brooklyn for Los Angeles with his mother and father in 1944, and lived there with his wife from 1955 - 1972. He and his family then moved to Crestline, California where they lived 29 Years before moving to San Bernardino in 2001. John graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945, and served in the Army until December of 1947. John later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation from Cal State, L.A. in 1952. He worked full time at the Los Angeles Times Boys Club while attending college, and later went on to work for such companies as Cannon Electric, AMF Voit, and Ormco, before taking part ownership of West Coast Chain. John was an active member of the Mountain Community, involving himself in Crestline's Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. John's greatest contribution to the community came when he and his wife Loretta founded the Mountain Communities Boys and Girls Club in 1995. John enjoyed many things such as dancing, bowling, gardening, reading, working with children and watching the Lakers, but nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his family. He will be forever known for his wisdom, kindness and generosity, and will be truly missed. Services will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Colton, California on July 14. His family requests that in Lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Mountain Communities Boys and Girls Club.

As a young Product Manager at AMF Voit, John was uber supportive - the consummate team player - and a true friend. While our lives took different paths after AMF - I will always cherish the gentleman that was John Iacono. RIP my friend!

John was a good friend of mine while we both worked at Cannon Electric. More importantly, I was also his friend. We also enjoyed playing on the company's basketball team where John both played and coached. I will miss his friendly smile and gracious attitude.

We were introduced to John Iacono as grandpa and that was our name for him ever since. Such a generous, caring and welcoming man. It's been an honor to make memories along side grandpa. We'll always remember the Vegas trips and many celebrations. You are an inspiration and a reminder to be kind and work hard. You will be missed. Our sincere condolences to the Iacono family.

I have such warm memories of John over the years. My late husband and I were bowling partners of John and Lorrie. I've know his children from Rim High where we attended in the 70's. John and Lorrie welcomed my family and me into their home and hearts and I mourn him like family, because if you ever knew John, he treated you as his family. God has truly gained one incredible angel!

Uncle Jersey,
You are a wonderful generous man. You lead a full amazing life. Your heart is rich with love for your family, and friends. I will always remember your famous dinners, barbecues, and bowling with the family in Crestline.

Every December, I would see Mr. Iacono at Chris' Christmas party. He would always have a big smile and ask how I was doing. Chris has a huge heart and after meeting her parents, it is apparent it starts with them. I feel honored to know the Iacono family.

Dad, Anyone who's met you will never forget you. You wanted to be a teacher and you were. Not in a classroom, but in the way you lived your life. You loved your wife, family, and friends unconditionally and you helped make the lives of countless others better every day. I love you and miss you already. I know you're up in heaven with Nana still watching over us and maybe listening to great music, dancing, and singing with the angels.

Iacono Family,

Thank you a million times for sharing your husband, dad, and grandpa with me. What a life!!! The lord puts people in your life for a LESSON or a BLESSING!! You have all been a blessing to me. Mr. Iacono has shown me kindness, dignity, and pure happiness. He has ALWAYS greeted me with a smile and has ALWAYS fed me well.

Not everyone is blessed with a family like this and I thank God for blessing me with you all. I have learned what family LOOKS like, SOUNDS like, and LOVES like. That starts from the top with God and then the father.

Mr. Iacono will always be in my heart. I still see that smile, hear the laugh, and feel the hugs.

Thank you Iacono family for sharing him with me. I am blessed.
