Stuart Russel Obituary

Russel, Stuart Lane Stuart passed away April 2, 2004, from complications of infection. He is survived by Norma, his wife of twenty-three years, his daughters, Anne Diederich and Mary Russel, his son, Richard Russel (Catherine Hunter), his stepdaughter, Margaret Johnson, his three sisters, Jane Wyatt, Emily Newton (John), and Elizabeth Merrill (David), and by his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. We will all miss his disarming wit, open mind, and wonderful sense of humor.
Stuart was born July 11, 1918 in Jacksonville, IL, and moved as a child with his family to Pasadena, CA. He attended local schools, PJC, and UCLA. After serving six years as an officer in the US Navy before and during World War II, he began his career in life insurance and annuity sales. He and his wife, Allison (deceased) reared their family of four children in Pasadena. Son, Thomas Russel, died in 1982. Stuart was involved in civic activities and many philosophical inquiries. These interests garnered friends from a broad spectrum and served his lively curiosity. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations in his honor be made to charities and causes of his friends' own choice. There will not be a formal funeral service, but any special memories from those who knew him would be welcome. A family gathering will be held later this month to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
