Columbus, Georgia- Rev. George Alfred Blackmon, 65, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 PM, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Grant Chapel AME Church. Rev. Mavis Brown, Pastor will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation will be Thursday, March 16, 2017 from noon until 6 pm, according to Sconiers Funeral Home, 836 5th Ave. Columbus, GA.
Rev. Blackmon was born March 14, 1951 in Columbus, GA. He was the son of James C. and Mamie Hunt Blackmon. He was a U. S. Navy veteran. Rev. Blackmon was an associate Pastor at Grant Chapel AME Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Blackmon Owens.
Survivors include his wife, Rev. Inez Blackmon; two sons, James C. Blackmon and Kevin A. Blackmon; a daughter, Sherry Fannin; a step son, Marcus (Tiffany) Jackson; two brothers, David (Vickie) Blackmon and Allen D. (LaChone) Porter; a brother in law, Durante Owens; seven grandchildren, and other relatives.
