Riccardo J. Lombardo February 14, 1931- October 21, 2005 COLUMBUS, GA— Riccardo J. Lombardo, 74, of Columbus died Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Columbus Hospice House. Graveside funeral services , with military honors, will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Mr. Lombardo was born February 14, 1931 in Hartford, CT, son of the late Paul Lombardo and Rose Theodore Lombardo. He had lived in Columbus since 1964. Mr. Lombardo was medically retired from the U.S. Army after 16 years of service and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Knapp Lombardo. Mr. Lombardo was mentioned by name in the book ÒWe Were Soldiers Once And YoungÓ for participation in the battle of LZ Xray and LZ Albany. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Lombardo of Columbus; two sons, Michael Lombardo of Madison, AL and Richard Lombardo of Korea; two granddaughters, Anna Lombardo and Erin Lombardo both of Madison, AL; one sister, Lena Franco of Hartford, CT; and two brothers, Frank Lombardo and Paul Lombard both of Hartford, CT.
