METHUEN — Ahmed Sahraoui, 57, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
Ahmed was born in Frenda, Algeria, the son of the late Sidi Kada Sahraoui and mother Hajja Fatima Ghzala. Before coming to America, Ahmed served in the Algerian Air Force. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he received his master's in engineering and did his undergraduate work there as well.
Mr. Sahraoui was a very devoted husband, father, and brother, who loved life, and more importantly his family. He loved to watch his children play and excel in soccer. Ahmed was a very religious man who belonged to the Selimiye Camii Mosque in Methuen. Ahmed had been employed as an engineer with Nortel Computer Industries and PictureTel.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Edwige Quintal Sahraoui; his daughters, Fatima and Karima; brothers, Sohbi, Abdelkader, Abdelkrim; and sisters, Mokhtaria and Youssfia; and many other nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Burial took place on Monday at noon in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. Friends will be warmly received on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. In lieu of flowers, the family will be happy for you to make a contribution to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843; or the charity of your choice. It is hard for me to believe that my dearest friend Ahmed with whom I shared so much at the University of Massachusetts and elsewhere has passed away.
My prayers and my thoughts go to his lovely family and may my prayers bring to them comfort in this time of deep sorrow.
You lost a great husband and a great father and I lost a dear friend.
Sorry for not being close geographically (Paris) to help you through these difficult times but my heart is with you and I hope you find the courage to overcome.
