Alfred Boerner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 31 to Aug. 3, 2010.
BOERNER, Alfred (Al) Eugene March 20, 1927 - July 28, 2010 Al Boerner, beloved husband of Ethel Boerner of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Besides his loving wife of fifty-five years, Al is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Michael Kelly and Ann Boerner and Darryl Barber; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Norma Boerner and Scott and Joan Boerner; eleven grandchildren Lauren (Aaron), Christopher, Elizabeth (Brendan), Patricia, Katelyn, Laura, Heather, Kyle, Victoria, Andrew and Caroline. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Joan Boerner and family all of Milwaukee. Al will be remembered for his passion for observing, understanding, and explaining the natural world which allowed him to be a consummate professional in his work as a geologist. He will be remembered by his professional colleagues in the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (C.I.M.M.), and the Geological Society of America (G.S.A.). We will also remember him for his intellectual engagement with the social and political issues of the day, and of course, his very bad puns. We are grateful that he shared these qualities with us and we will be reminded of him in the whistling of the wind and the beautiful bird songs of a summer day. A private family gathering will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . In living memory of Al Boerner, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Dear Ethel,
It was a great shock for us to hear of Al's passing. We were out of the city when Al passed away so we didn't know. Today, we were playing in the Condo Capers golf tournament at Priddis. I won the door prize which, strangely enough, was a bird feeder. I said Al would be glad as he had always fed the birds and had moved to the city so no one was feeding them now. That is when I was told of Al's death. Al was a great neighbour, friend and wise man. His family meant everything to him. We will all miss him. His dedication to his birds was unfailing as in rain, snow or shine, Al could be seen filling his numerous bird feeders. If I needed to identify a bird, Al always had the answer. May your fond memories of Al give you comfort in the difficult times ahead.

Love Morris and Isabelle

Our dearest Ethel:

Words cannot describe the feelings we both had reading about the passing of your husband Al.

Over the past year, we got to know you both very well. We spent long periods on the phone with Al, who always had your best interests at heart.

Al was a kind and gentle person who cared a lot about people.

We grew to admire Al for all the Care he showed you when you were not well, and for the concern he had about always putting your interests ahead of his own.

He will be sadly missed by many who knew him.

Please accept our sincerest condolences at this very difficult time.

Our thoughts are with you Ethel.
