Anne Kohler Nichols

(1933-2018) Anne K. Nichols, 84, of Annapolis, Maryland, died peacefully at her home on March 20, 2018. Born on December 13, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland, she is predeceased by her sons' father, Charles H. Nichols, Jr.; her son, James "Beau" Nichols; sister, Dana Lee Sprague; niece Carolyn Sprague; and nephew Albert "Tim" Sprague. She graduated from Annapolis High School and later the Bard-Avon Secretarial School. Anne was a secretary for an Annapolis physician, a stenographer for the U.S. Army, and an executive secretary and administrative aide to the clinical directors at the Anne Arundel County Department of health where she retired in 1994. As a tour guide in colonial dress, Anne had a real flare for making Annapolis' historic district come alive for her patrons with her authentic Elizabethan accent. To wit, she was awarded the first annual "Street Urchin" award given to the guide considered to be lively, enthusiastic, and most reliable. Her citation read, "Little things come in small packages like dynamite and Anne Nichols!" She loved games of all kinds and never missed an opportunity for a round of charades or a hand of cards. Anne enjoyed cooking, reading, history, traveling with her cousins and close friends to far off lands, dancing, and sitting in the sun on any deck or beach. She was a devoted mother and a "sustaining force" to her four boys, steadfast friend to her daughters-in-law, and a doting grandmother. As a young woman, she was a Marine Corps wife traveling to various military bases with her sons and became a USNA sponsor and fan, never missing an Army Navy football game. She is survived by her three sons, C. Reid Nichols and wife Cindy, Curtis D. Nichols, Todd H. Nichols and wife Lisa; daughter-in-law Kathryn Nichols; niece Jennifer Sprague Zwiebel; grandchildren Benjamin, Caitlin, Elizabeth, Dale; and great grandsons Andrew and Graham. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at John M. Taylor Funeral Home located at 147 Duke of Gloucester St in Annapolis, MD.
