Annie Drover Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2010.
DROVER, Annie "Mom/Nana" 1918-2010-of Halifax, It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Annie Drover on August 30, 2010. She was the daughter of the late William H and Mary Jane Smith (Oldford). Annie was born in Hodge's Cove, NL. She was a member of a large family and attended the Anglican Church and school. She met and married the love of her life Walter K. Drover from Sunnyside, NL. They moved to Halifax in 1941, where they raised their family and volunteered their time to many charitable organizations and were active members of the Cathedral Church of All Saints for more than 60 years. In 1949 Annie joined the order of the Eastern Star, Emerald Chapter #58 and served three times as a Worthy Matron Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and PEI. She was also a charter member of Athena Temple Daughters of the Nile. She was an honorary member of both. She loved to bake and was known for all her delicious treats and cake decorating skills. She also loved to knit, create needle point crafts, card playing and do elaborate puzzles. Most of all she welcomed a good joke and loved to laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Annie dedicated her life to her family, her church and her community. She was a pillar of strength for her family and her many friends. Her generous loving spirit will forever live on in their hearts. At the time of her passing she was comforted by her loved ones and also extended family members, who were her angels and care providers on the 4th floor of Arborstone Enhanced Care, Purcell's Cove Rd., Halifax. She is survived by daughter Karen (Rob) Fleming; son Michael; sister Florence (Martin); favorite former daughter in law Sandi Mitchell; grandchildren Darrell (Kelly), Michelle, Chris, Angela and Adam; as well as great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mom "Nana" will be greatly missed by all whose hearts she touched. She was predeceased by her husband Walter K. Drover; sons, Victor, Gary, and Lelslie; sisters, Margaret Hancock, Doris Balsam; brothers, Fred and Will. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Children's Wish Foundation. A memorial service will be held 1pm Friday September 17th, 2010 at the Cathedral Church of All Saints. To place an online message of condolence please visit www.cruikshankhalifaxfuneralhome.com

Remembering my beautiful Aunt Anne.
You have always been very special to me and I will miss you very much. Even though we didn't see much of each other, I valued the letters we wrote back and forth over the years. For over 40 years that you honored that tradition, and made a little girl feel very special. I still have many of them put away for safe keeping. I also treasured the stories you told me of long ago in Hodges Cove when you and my dad were children: you gave me a glimpse of who my grand parents were, because I never had the opportunity to meet them. I believe that I got to know something of their character through you. Thank-you for that!
I pray that you will rest in peace. I will sign off as I did with all my letters.
Love your niece
Bonnie
