CONNEAUT — Bernard S. Wincik, Sr., age 80, of Monroe Township, walked the fields to the other side on Tuesday, July 1, 2008.Born April 26, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son to the late John and Frances Wincik, and resided in Monroe Township for the past 78 years.A Veteran, Bernard served our country in the U.S. Army from 1947 through 1949 in Guam, as a medical technician. He worked at the former Electromet, which later became Union Carbide, then Elkem Metals. During his career there, he was a crane operator and a locomotive mechanic before his retirement in 1987, after 37 years of service.In his leisure time, he enjoyed farming, woodworking and crafts.Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marian (Urban); daughters, Sister Barbara Wincik HM of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathleen (Walter) Cogar of Austinburg, Ohio, Babette (John) Locke of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Tina (Kevin) Creighton of Boardman, Ohio; sons, Bernard (Stephanie) Wincik Jr. of Girard, Pa., and Victor Wincik of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Emily Licate of Ashtabula, Jessie Simak of Monroe Towwship, Helen Kolakowski of N. Kingsville and Elsie (Edward) Fiala of Conneaut; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Theresa Wincik.Cremation will take place, and at his request there will be no viewing or services. An immediate family gathering for remembrance will be held at a later date.Memorial contributions may be made in Bernard’s name, to the Monroe Fire Dept. or Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes are available at the Funeral Home.THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut, Ohio, is handling arrangements.
