Caleb D. Glass Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 26 to Jul. 5, 2023.
Caleb Dinson Glass, nuclear physicist, author, and aviator of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away on June 16, 2023. He was born in Glass (now part of Kannapolis), North Carolina, April 22, 1934, where his family had lived since the early 1800's. Mr. Glass graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1952. He held a Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering and advanced degrees in nuclear physics and management. He served in the Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. Following a career designing the nuclear reactor cores and fuel cycles for a number of early nuclear power plants, he joined the Atomic Energy Commission. He finished his 25 year career with the AEC and it successor agencies as Program Manager of the Hanford, Washington, Plutonium Production and Processing Plant.

After retirement, his interest in the Civil War led him to write and publish a novel, Horse Soldiers, which received an award as the Best Civil War fiction of 2001. He also satisfied a lifelong ambition to fly and obtained his private pilot's license in 1999. He is survived by his wife Karen Leppert Foster. His ashes will be interred in the Glass family plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, North Carolina.
