Calvin went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. He was 91 years old. Waiting to greet him in Heaven were his mother and father, Lety Dulaney Morrison and Calvin E. Morrison Sr. and his six siblings, John, Gus, Maria, Earlma, Daisy and Lety. Left to cherish his precious memory is his wife, Rosemary Graves Morrison of Shreveport, LA., daughters, Pam M. Smith and husband, A.P. "Paul" of Shreveport, LA., Kay M. Dotsey and husband, Pete of Houston, TX. and Cindy M. Matthes of Sugarland, TX., grandchildren, Calvin Dotsey, Katherine Dotsey, Shelby Matthes, Mason Matthes and Marshall Matthes and sister, Catherine M. Lee of Sweetwater, LA. and sister-in-law, Nan G. Farber and husband, George of Kenner, LA. Calvin is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Calvin was born on January, 17, 1922 in Baptist, Louisiana. He was one of eight children of Lety D. and Calvin E. Morrison Sr. He spent much of his childhood helping with the farm which supported the family during the Depression. After graduating from Hammond High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 30 months in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, Calvin attended LSU in Baton Rouge and graduated in 1950 with a BS Degree in Ornamental Horticulture. While there, he met Rosemary Graves and they were married a year after graduation. They had 61 years together. He was owner of Morrison Tree Service for over 35 years.

Calvin loved to work in his garden and shared his vegetables with friends and neighbors. Deer season was a priority at the Morrison household. He loved spending time with his buddies in the woods, although the deer population had little to worry about. In later years he and Rosemary enjoyed traveling with their friends and family. Calvin was a gentle man. He was a good husband and father. We will all miss him.

Honoring Calvin as pallbearers will be, Calvin Dotsey, Pete Dotsey, Jeff Farber, Mason Matthes, Marshall Matthes and Paul Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be, Will Arceneaux, Jack Barron, George Evanoff and Bob Herndon.

Calvin's family suggests that memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN. 38105.

Many memories remain of the good times Aubrey and I, plus the Prices, enjoyed with Calvin on the weekends when we were all neighbors. He was always jolley; could tell funny happenings on those deer hunting trips. Now he and Aubrey can talk about the good times together. Calvin was such a kind hearted person and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. My sympathy to the family.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Calvin Eugene Morrison, Jr. our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Calvin. And to Calvin it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Navy. Calvin, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Calvin's family and loved ones.

I have fond memories of summers at Uncle Calvin & Aunt Rosemary's house. We loved being with our cousins. Uncle Calvin truly had the light of Jesus forever present in his heart. He was so kind, gentle and sweet to all of us. Lety, my mother and his sister, was so much like him - full of goodness and compassion. You are now in your eternal home, face to face with our Lord, and have been welcomed by Grandma & Grandpa and all your brothers and sisters. Your precious smile and genuine love for all of us will never be forgotten.
