Catharine Armstrong Catharine Armstrong, 77, of Brightwood, succumbed to Alzheimer's on Monday, September 16, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Girardville, Pennsylvania, September 25, 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret; her brother, Robert; and two sons-in-law, Lewis Whetzel and Alan Machleit. She is survived by her husband, James; her children, Catharine Daniels and Gary of New Jersey, Jayne Machleit of Virginia, Patricia Whetzel of Virginia, and Michael and his wife, Shirley, of New Jersey. Catharine's grandchildren are Aubrey Keegan and Christopher of Pennsylvania, Carl Daniels of New Jersey, Jared Machleit and Ashley of North Carolina, Kathleen Machleit (of the home), Zachary Whetzel of New Jersey, Aaron Whetzel of Virginia, Amanada Daniel Bettencourt and Robert of New Jersey, Catharine's great-grandchildren are Catie Keegan, C.J. Daniels, Brandon Daniels and Lydia Bettencourt. Catherine and James moved to Virginia with their daughter in Brightwood after living most of their lives in New Jersey. She retired from Parker McCay law firm where she was the office manager. Catherine continued to work and later retired from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in New Jersey. For the last two years she attended Our Lady of the Blue Ridge Catholic Church in Virginia. In her spare time ,Catherine loved to bowl and crochet in her younger days and also was an avid reader. The family would like to thank the wonderful care she received at home from her nurses and Hospice of the Piedmont. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013, at Our Lady of the Blue Ridge Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. The interment will be in the Culpeper National Cemetery. Preddy Funeral Home of Madison is in charge of arrangements.
