Charles BELCH Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Jan. 27 to Jan. 28, 2016.
BELCH, Charles "Chuck"
Chuck Belch of Calgary, AB passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the age of 80 years. He was born in Medicine Hat on August 12, 1935 and he grew up in numerous small towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Chuck would follow in his father's footsteps, joining CP Railway as a gang worker in his late teens. His career spanned over 38 years. He retired in 1990 as Assistant Signal Supervisor. In 1959, Chuck married Alva Hudson and they lived in the Mount Pleasant district of Calgary for over 50 years. From 2013 on, he resided at Shouldice Lodge. In his later years, Chuck enjoyed watching Cannons' games; gardening; holding garage sales; tinkering with tools and "fix-its"; as well as maintaining many social connections with CP Pensioners and neighborhood friends at A&W. Chuck was a believer in hard work and common sense. He had a desire to reach out, be friendly and see the cheerful side of life. He is survived by his wife Alva; son Blair; daughter Glenda; three grandchildren and one sister Maryann. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Selma. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Thaell and the team at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Donna and the team at Urban Palliative Home Care, and the loving staff at Agapé Hospice. Your depth of caring, generosity of spirit, and wellspring of kindness are deeply appreciated. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on January 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made directly to the Agapé Hospice, 1302 8 Ave N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 or the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 29 St N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2. To Alva and all of the family, I send along my deepest sympathy and condolences. I enjoyed Chuck's company so much. He had the heart of a teddy bear and we could always share a laugh, especially when he and your Mom were waiting to be seated at the church turkey supper. He loved those! Blessings and love, Rev. Linda Hunter

My thoughts and prayers are with the Belch family at this time.

I met Charlie during my time spent with C.P. Rail, first as an Operator, then as a Signalman at 12th Street East Tower, then as a Train Dispatcher/Rail Traffic Controller.

Before Charlie retired, I shared many cups of coffee, and stories, with Charlie, I always enjoyed Charlie's company, and because we both worked with many of the same co-workers, we shared many of the same memories.

I'll always remember Charlie as the happy, fun loving, hard working guy, many of us knew him to be, who like many before us, followed life's path to piece.

I'll miss you Charlie....
