I lost my best friend on June 24, 2016. Doug and I had been very close for more than 40 years. We experienced a lot of what life had to offer during that time, and we had a blast. Races, concerts, parties, or just talking cars will never be the same without Doug. After a meal with Doug, I would push back from the table and comment that I was full. Doug would always say "I'm Fuller". I wish I could hear that one more time. Farewell Doug, say hi to Hendrix.

Wayne, Evelyn and Bret, Deepest sympathy. Doug was one of a kind. We had memorable visits when we stopped in Ames to visit your family on our yearly Christmas trips to the Midwest. You were never at a loss for interesting stories. I remember you telling us about the time that Doug went exploring the storm drain under the road. He crawled in half way and got stuck. You had to call in construction equipment to dig him out. They hadn't been working very long when Doug suddenly appeared on his own on the other side of the storm drain. Not sure how happy anyone was at that point.

Doug will be missed by all who knew him.

Bret, Dr. Fuller and Evelyn, sympathy and uplifting prayers to you from Henry and myself. Doug was a colorful person, appreciated for his unique approach to life. I am so very glad he spent some time with us just last month. We are re-stocked with a few jars of Doug's jam and years of a dear friendship (for Henry, all his life, and since 1988 for me!) that has left a handprint on our hearts. I extend my sympathies to the Fuller family. Doug was a great person to be around and he was a fun, unforgettable personality. As one of his former ISU Agronomy professors, I always remembered the similes and laughs when visiting with him and he always left me feeling better about life's ironies.

I knew Doug for more than 50 years. His pose in an early class photo always amazed me, Doug sitting in the front row, hands clasped over his knees facing the camera with a mug-shot expression. How the photographer caught anything but a blur is beyond me. Doug's mission in life seemed to be proving that you have to grow old, but you don't have to grow up. I'll miss him from now on, he was a better friend to me than I was to him.

It is so sad to hear about Doug's passing. While I haven't seen much of him since leaving Ames in '81, I can't recall ever being around Doug and not laughing a lot and enjoying the time. He will truly be missed by all - my deepest condolences to the family.

Deepest sympathies to the Fuller family. The world lost a good guy last week. He was a friend to many and ornery to some. He was never shy about giving me a hard time and would also gladly give the shirt off his back along with homemade jams, jellies, and a ham sandwich in case I got hungry.
In the 21 years I was Doug's friend we did a lot of big fun adventures together and he talked me through some darker times too.
I regret that there were not more times to just hang out and I'm mad there just wasn't more time.
Doug knew he had good friends and I'm proud to be one of them. I look forward to celebrating his life. Rest in peace, my friend. You are loved and will be missed.

Doug brought lots of color into our lives but what I remember Doug best for is the depth of his friendships to many people (30+years for me). He will be missed by many!

Doug and I met in high school, and we never stopped hanging out. We transplanted 2 catalpa trees to my yard 2 weeks ago. He was my hunting buddy, close companion, and "Uncle Doug" to my children. Over the years I came to know many of his family and they too have been close to me. He was a good friend to many.
